frame strengthening kits on ebay

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on motorbike frames. I do know however that with push-bike frames, adding gussets like this without careful design can make things worse. It stiffens up a specific area of the frame, so it means any load is applied, the stiffened area 'attracts' more load. As you'd expect, at critical loads, it's normally the metal around the welds of the gussets fail first. If the plates have been well designed, you get a higher ultimate strength....

...but the plates can focus loads to a weaker area of the frame that weren't designed for it and failures can occur at lower loads than before. And that's before you consider the weakening and locked-in loads than you can accidentally create from a poor weld job.

This is probably fine. But I'd want to see some evidence that it does actually help.

Unless you're a demon off road rider running monster forks who's entering the Paris Dakar then what's the point? I've seen a few botched frame mods done in somebodies shed with an Arc welder to know you need to know what you're doing. The HPN fame Mods are beautifully stitch welded to reduce stress and strain in the tubing. Getting your mates aldi arc welder out and burning the shit out of the steel is a recipe for disaster. I had to bin the last GS frame I bought with DIY welded plates on.

Exactly, anyone prepared to spend £50 on a few laser cut bits of scrap, is definitely making a mistake, get a proper engineered solution if you need the frame strengthened, and the ability to go back to them if things go wrong,

if you have the skills, why would you buy them in the first place?
