Wanted Free/very cheap smartphone for our elderly neighbour to use.

As above - need a recent-ish smartphone for my neighbour to access banking apps.

He can't navigate the Chip and Pin/bank card reader technology any more, so an app with a PIN will do the job.

Doesn't need to be unlocked for a SIM as home WiFi only; although I may convert him from the Nokia brick he still uses!

Prefer Android but beggars etc......

Thanks for that - will do, but hoping someone has one in a drawer! I might go eBay later if necessary.

Must run Android 8.0 or later (so bank's app says).

Cracked screen no problem if still viewable.

I have an Alcatel that was my mum's. It's about 5yrs old but like new. Whould probably serve the purpose. I've just put it on charge to see if it'll hold charge and see what version af android it is.

We did something similar for my Dad recently but we went with a tablet as its easier for him on the large screen.

Just been round to help the guy - he's deteriorated since I saw him 4 weeks ago - I doubt he can use anything modern now, so closing the thread.

Very sad, I suspect he'll be in a home in a few weeks; he's 86.
