I purchased this Freelander in July 23 having had several before and was sceptical at first as it had covered over 200,000 miles. But due to the comprehensive service history and condition I thought I would give it a go.
I must say that it has been brilliant and have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever and drives like new. Most likely due to its comprehensive service history as it's the basic model without all the added gadgets and novelties the higher spec models and my previous ones have had. Due to being such a decent car I have kept it the same way and maintained it as it had been previously. Even in my ownership alongside keeping on top of the usual maintenance I also replaced the rear differential and at the same time had the Haldex serviced by Bell Engineering (only did for piece of mind as had issues with my previous ones). Have had any recommendations by my local garage carried out including having the rear brake shoes replaced, brake pads, rear discs, brake cables all replaced, tyres, bonnet struts, anti roll bars links and I've even changed all the alloy wheel nuts.
One would most likely be thinking why am I selling?. Well I only bought in the first place as was replacing my dog car and unfortunately had trouble getting in unless I lifted her (old age). Even to the extent of buying dog steps and a ramp she said no thanks plus the fact she's getting older now and even struggles to get in the car I use for her. Nonetheless it has been super useful whereby I have been going back and forth over the last few years across the M62 as my father died and was sorting out his estate. I also have other cars/motorbikes and even my late father's car now so have far too many and need to downsize as it were.
Back to the Freelander, I will say it's mechanically sound, not a show pony as you would expect from a new car and remembering it is now 15 years old but still looks good. Usual gear stick skirt wear and steering wheel worn but I put a cover on.
Mileage is now 252,812 and may increase as still use it.
Manual (6 gears)
Diesel and very, very economical.
Full Leather seats with front heated.
Electric windows all round
Rear tinted windows
Air Conditioning (works brilliantly and use it even in winter, not on cold mind)
Parrot Mki9200 handsfree telephone comms system. Works great.
Being the eco version has the Stop/Start function but only works with a brand new battery and then after a few months doesn't but prefer it without anyway. Also informs you of when to change gear as if one would need it and can be switched off but being landrover you have to do it each time you start. Ive never had any issues starting whatsoever. I suppose if one had it connected to a battery maintainer at home it would keep the battery at maximum all the time. Its never bothered me in the slightest and had no problems at all.
MOT'd till June 2026 with x3 windscreen advisories (small repaired chips that don't affect drivers view and not really noticeable but lets face it examiners need to write down something). I was going to use my windscreen excess if got any worse and have it changed but hasn't bothered me in the slightest.
As I mentioned it's a great car and do not let the mileage put you off as will run and run past the 300,000 I have no doubt. Cambelt was changed as per landrover recommendations 150,000/10 Years or whatever comes first and next change will be at 20 years or 300,000.
Looking to sell for £1500 which is in my opinion a good deal for a car that will get you from A to B no matter what, runs perfectly, has no mechanical faults, couple scratches here and there, (rear bumper is where Mrs going to close with wheely bins most likely but I will T cut those out?) and has only slight rust in usual spots but nothing major as had in my previous ones. Alloys have the odd slight flakes here and there and drivers mirror arm has a hole (see pics) in it but doesn't affect anything. Apart from that not bad at all. A nice looking reliable car. Do not let the mileage put you off, cars don’t get to this mileage unless they’ve been maintained and looked after I’ve a pack of receipts to prove. 4 Previous owners.
If your after a cheap workhorse to run around in I highly recommend this and any questions or wish to view please PM.
