From the 1st of March this year fines are to be introduced for any driver/rider not carrying an unopened breathalyser.

The breathalyser must have the French NF (NormeFrancaise) approval certification mark.

It ees recommended that drivers/riders carry two breathalysers, one for a self test before driving/riding after a leisurly lunch, and still have an unopened one should the nice Gendarme in Nice think you are driving/riding too slowly.

One of the many suppiers of such certificated breathalysers is your local branch of www.halfords.com or the travel shops at the ports.
Get them before you travel as there could be a nice little earner for the Gendarmes on the roads from the ports, not that I would suggest that that might happen.

We have failed to find them in any local shops although we know we could buy them online.

There are strong rumours around that they are going to abandon the whole stupid thing.

If not I suppose I'll have to supply them to all the groups I take trail riding - what a PITA.

The French have officially been unable to confirm a start date to fines. It is still only on an advisable notice ie if you don't have one you will be reminded it is a good idea to have one and sent on your way. Though is suspect they the flick will not even ask for one unless an offence involving drink has been committed...

In the Correze you can get them everywhere primarily because no one is bothering to buy them...
