just come back from driving to the Alps and picked up two camera flashes on the way back:blast This partly occured because for some reason the 660 kept telling me there was a fixed 68mph camera every 10 miles so I missed the warnings for the real :eek80mph fixed cameras.

I just wondered that assuming there was a film in the cameras am I likely to receive a letter from the french authorities. Oh it was a hire car if that's relevant. Hopefully entente cordial does not extend to entente fixed penalty:confused:

If it's a hire car, the hire company will receive any fine levied.

They have your credit / debit card number, so the hire company can very easily simply debit you for it.

The ticket will be sent to the hire company who will pay the fine on your behalf and then charge the fine to the credit card you secured the car with. They will also stiff you for a handling fee.

I've been lucky and not been done but a close friend got done for 3 tickets when driving a Hertz rental car from his brother's place in Toulouse to Grenoble & back.

So, just hope the camera was an analogue one with no film in it.

Basic mistakes are always the most entertaining:thumb2

And the French don`t mess about with this stuff now, they are serious.

You can probably double what you have just spent on your entire holiday.

Aaah! Le speeding??? C'est les Anglais!

Tres bien! Je donne les Anglais le fine plus grand!

Malheureux!

YuP bend over and brace yerself.

I did zeebrugge to Torino in the car on my own and decided that an electronic toll payment device AKA the telepeage was the way to go.

Camera Flashed on a slip road in Switzerland and then again in France,
Voila, bingo, foOk me, £700 in fines straight off the credit card.:blast

I reckon Interpoll will be kicking in your door anytime soon, I hope you paid attention to all the Bourne Identity Films, grab all your fake ID's and leg it now!

Unfortunate you were in a hire car, you've probably already paid the fines.

On the upside, at least your points are safe:thumb

68MPH? 80MPH? So, what speed were you going? They're pretty strict over here now, last time I drove down through Lyon in the roadworks, I was doing 93 in a 90 limit and got a 45EUR fine and 3 points. Chahhrnts. Shame it was a hire car as they don't question anything, just stump up, then bill you..

Oh .............la la

Ouch:eek:

I guess it pays to update the speed camera POI's on the satnav regularly.
Most free camera & OEM databases are vastly out dated, you maybe should consider a subscription to camera database which updates on a weekly basis as it will save you money in the long term

Turn the auto warning off on the 660. It's too sensitive and a distraction.
Rely on your eyeballs instead.

It took 6 months and more before my credit card was debited 10 euro's by the hire company in Italy, this was just for providing my details to the Italian Police who then fined me 170 euro's for driving in a restricted area in Pisa. Then a few months later the same thing, had to cough up again. I then rang the credit card company and asked their advice, they put a block on any more charges by the hire company. Whole thing was a bit of a nightmare as we had to do a bank transfer in euro's, they said if we paid in sterling and the rate was slightly out we would incur more costs. Expensive couple of photo's of the leaning tower!

 Have I got this right? I borrowed a friend's Telepeage device a couple of weeks ago for a trip to Switzerland. So if I was caught by a camera they would somehow pick up on the device and charge the credit card it was registered with

As far as I know the device isn't tied to one vehicle so how would they know unless the camera picks up the signal as well as the numberplate?

It's becoming a 'kin nightmare trying to avoid speeding fines and points wherever you are these days. Luckily, as I'm getting older I'm less inclined to speed everywhere but I do have my moments.....:augie

Does anyone know what happens if you have changed your card after the "offence" but before the hire company is notified by the police?

I can't see the rental company just saying 'can't be bothered to contact him, why don't we just pay his fine for him and let it go'....especially as they have your address and you signed an agreement saying you are responsible for paying all fines relating to the vehicle whilst renting it.

Should be tied to the numberplate, nothing to do with the telebadge. We've got a couple of the badges, and use them between cars and the motorbike. If you get flashed for speeding, the numberplate is the only thing they go on...

I would guess the Credit Card Company/Bank will simply transfer the debit to your new card (at least I think that's what they do if you forget to change the details of a Direct Debit on a cancelled card, etc). Something about a legal requirement to honour Direct Debits. I think the terms of your rental agreement would include an agreement to pay for any traffic fines, etc.

Not sure what would happen if you moved all your financial accounts from that bank to a different bank (i.e. not just another branch of the same bank).
