French radar warning signs to be removed

lot of scaemongering.. until the details are actually finalised its all tosh esp as radar detectors have always been banned.. if the reporting website can not clarify that simple point what else have they got wrong?
The word on the rue is that that it's GPS-based alerting systems that will be made illegal, as you say, radar emission detectors have always been illegal in France (DAMHIK)

+1 lots of proposals with no detail to back it up. Even if the French decided to review these proposals, discuss them in some detail, move them through the bureaucracy and make it all law it would be 2/3 years off.
Fraid not. The warning signs for speed cameras have already gone! Hi-Viz is planned to come into force Aug/Sep.

yep just the same as CH and DE then... im having a drive out to FR later and will check some of the known marked sites are still marked.

So how comes the radar warning signs have have already been removed around here within the last week ?

Because that does not need a change in the law, there is no current legal requirement to display warning signs. Hi viz may well come in quickly but I would put up 20 Euros not by September

I guess we will have to wait and see, but it has certainly been in all the press and on the telly last couple of weeks, I believe this is being rushed through to prevent the FFMC getting its activists out on the roads in an organised mass. It still has to be interpreted whether a hi-vis is to be worn at all times or just when stopped at the side of the road for breakdown or accident.

I've seen and read it in the press and TV but as you quite rightly say there is no defiinition of HI Viz at the moment or where it must be worn. Fines can go up immediately according to my local Capt Gendarmes because the legislation to impose fines already exists so I expect that to go up soon

Re GPS and speed camera warnings, the ban as I understand it is on DETECTORS. GPS units in the main are not detectors but as the French literature describe as Advertisers. i.e. of fixed sites. So normal GPS units - Garmin and Tom Tom are still ok to use. If anyone knows different, I would like to hear.

Radar detectors are banned as are any method of pinpointing or locating speed cameras, i.e. the Inforad system is banned as is any software on SatNav equiptment, any software on your SatNav MUST be turned off and you must be able to prove it is turned off otherwise a hefty fine and confiscation of equiptment will follow. (Don't forget, your SatNav will have a log of your progress in it's memory too!).

Some confusion methinks.

Radar detectors are banned, but not GPS based location systems.

There is a proposal to make these illegal too, but it may be some time before it is brought into force, if at all.

There is considerable resistance against these new proposals, witness the removal of the speed camera warning signs that has now been reversed (after they had already been taken down in some areas) - it may be that the government will back down, especially with an election season on the horizon.

They weren't interested in the GPS when taking for a trip to the cash machine last month.
