Fresh owner of xchallenge

I reckon Cole got a couple of drinks out of Hyperpro, even a reduced cost of his suspension if he mentioned it over and over and over again..... what do you reckon Walter?:D

Nail on head

So far i've been satisfied with bike and Öhlins. If i have issues with it, i think our Finnish importer can help. I've been even getting familiar with Rekluse. It still feels uncomfort in some situations.

I took bike for six day trip to, drove quite much along Russian border. Theres not much houses there and logging roads in forests are quite empty. We drove around 2500km in five driving days.

.....logging roads in forests.....
2012-08-14-304.jpg

Antii, I believe these roads are ok to use with motorcycle and 4x4, providing there is not a chain or barrier across or there are signs stating logging operations are taking place, is this correct?
I did ride many roads like this when I was in Keski-Soumi, absolutely fanstastic but I was riding alone so was cautious. But saying that, I would love to return to Finland and do some more....:drool
I have already discussed this with some of my Euro-friends on advrider forum, and maybe next year we come over to ride there again.
How is the detail on mapping for GPS? Is it military/topo based mapping with detail greater than Garmin Mapsource City Navigator?

T.

Hello. I think city navigator details are enough. If you are coming to Finland, wellcome! I live on west coast, Kokkola.

OK thanks, maybe we'll meet.:thumb2
Hey, is there a cheap 'truck' ferry from Sweden to West Coast of Finland. I believe very cheap with food and cabin included in the low price?
All I need to do is to convince a few of the advriders to come with me and we can make a trip out of it.

Hello. I think in this year cheapests is maybe RG-line, from Uumaja to Vaasa (Umeå-Wasa). Just check, one person with motorcycle 60 euros and you dont need cabin becouse trip is about four and half hour.

Another options are Tukholma-Turku or Tukholma-Helsinki.

Check ferries and prices via Viking line, Silja line or Finnlines (Naantali-Kapellskär about 8hours.)

As mentioned,

City navigator does show all driveable routes and even some motor sledge routes.
Logging and forest roads are free for anyone, if there isn't any sign or barriers etc. Some roads go trough farm and near houses, just use common sense in those places.
Areas wich are in army use are also marked with signs.

If theres some logging going, road can be driven carefully.

Miten Antti saat kuvia tänne? Pitikö siitä maksaa joku nimellinen maksu jonnekin, että niitä saa liitettyä?

Thanks:)

Photos are loaded to Photobucket and linked from there.

By the way, about the Finnish maps. Now its possible to get detailed terrainmaps (wich show all tracks, big rocks etc) for Garmin. Govenrment released all mapping data for anyones use and its been converted to Garming, he who made conversion asks only donation.

Nice bike. Can I just warn you that the Ohlins does not have a good reputation on these bikes, they seem to specialise in sports shocks and it doesn't translate well to the off-road world.
I like your tank solution, I use the same tank but mount it differently. Have fun.

I'm just looking at your bike, how do you have the aux tank plumbed in on this pic?
Do you have a pump to transfer the fuel or does the main tank draw the fuel up through the breather vent?

I'm interested as I'm in the process of having a low level aux tank fabricated - I'm unsure yet as to whether the fuel will syphon "up" into the main tank without a pump.

Advice appeeciated!

Main tank draws fuel from aux tank, its connected as "breather hose".

I'm aware that that's the principle on the x tanks etc but wasn't sure whether it would draw the fuel up from low down.

Hello Antti. Have you note your engine temperature on winter?

In christmas I take 120 km touring session. Temperature was about -22C. I block 2/3 on cooler. When I drive few kilometres about 100km/h bike loose idle speed. So, I start engine and idle was no good. When I drive lower speed, engine runs well.

Have you or anyone make temperature meter on challenge?

Interesting point.

I'm running a pace radiator, which doesn't have a thermostat, and get similar problems.

When the bike first runs it is fine, and on the trails it is fine (unless travelling quickly with little throttle opening), but if i've done a few miles on tarmac it sometimes cuts out at junctions. I had wondered if i was just battery issues, but changed the battery and it didn't effect the bike.

Do you think there is a problem with the fuel mapping vs. temperature sensor on the bike as standard?

Nathan

Hello Nathan, and sorry that I dont understand everything you say....

But you ask about temperature sensor. Do you mean sensor in fuel injection system?

Previous owner have tuned air intake system. There is some Husaberg filter instelled now. Previous owner tell me something about that sensor (in original airbox?) but I dont remember what. I understand, there is some "dummy" sensor now.
