Friction burning smell - 2011 R1200GS

Since coming back from a trip in France I get a smell coming from the bike.

It smells of brake or clutch but both seem to be functioning well.

My mate has the same age bike and he has not experienced the same on his.

It does not happen all of the time just to make it interesting but worrying none the less.

Anyone else experienced the same issue?

Quite common on earlier 1200's, the friction linings were made from little better than fish paste and often got a bit whiffy if allowed to get hot.

Check your wheels rotate freely and that your handguards arn't touching the brake or clutch levers.

........... also, check the gear box seal, it could be leaking onto the exhaust
