From HP2 Sport to S1000RR

Having sold my lovely HP2 Sport a few weeks ago (expensive toy just sat in the garage).

I made the mistake of letting my BM dealer talk me into taking there S1000RR for a test ride.
So, resplendent in my Twat Suit and peakless Tuor-X.

Two hours later, I was back at dealers with a huge grin filling my helmet. What an truly outstanding motorcycle. That was it, I was addicted and I wanted one.

So after much wheeling and dealing, a few weeks later, I picked the new toy up in my van.

250 miles on the clock now, and looking forward to having her de-restricted at the 600mile service. (its electronically limited to 9k rpm – 124mph - until then).

Yonkyo....I have to admit that I am really jealous of you...
I wish when I will have money to have the same "toys" in my garage.....on for my touring inspirations and one for my happiness....
well done....It will be nice to go to your garage and see these two art pieces...

I would think that must be the perfect duo of bikes covering everything you would want to do on a bike, very nice indeed but........

what were BM thinking of with those headlights, what happened there????

Y'know....I honestly thought that I had grown out of sports 'bikes years ago.....BUT, the S1000RR especially in those colours, well........... ......

Make sure you don't end up doing what I did and have a sportsbike as an ornament while the GSA got used every ride!

How do you find comfort on the S1000R as I doubt I could do more than 50 miles on one without aching all over

I was up at Pidcock's last week. They'd got a 1000 RR Demo with all the Carbon bits on it and Race Paint and it does look nice. The Plain Black one in the Showroom looks Anonymous,though.
They also had a Brand New HP2 Sport with all Options and Race Paint £16.5K
And just to throw a Left Field Spanner in the Works, A Christian Pfeiffer Rep 850 R, again,in Race Paint.

That Colour Scheme certainly makes a difference.

BTW .. how do you know that this sports bike won't just sit in the garage? It does have to compete with the "best bike in the world" for leisure time.

I just did 90 miles on a deristricted one yesterday....whooa what a beast, acceleration like you have never experienced seriously quick bit of kit with very light steering.....awsome grin machine

I am going to ride a friend's tomorrow, I hope. Just come off it's running in restriction, too....

Whether it's sufficiently 'different' from the other supersports bikes I don't know. The HP2 Sport is, for sure. Nice bike, just the same.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call the GSA a work of art…but the HP2S certainly was.

Its typical BMW signature headlight style. They seem to have a thing about asymmetric design.

Make sure you don't end up doing what I did and have a sportsbike as an ornament while the GSA got used every ride!

That was the problem with the HP2S. It become just an ornament, It was a fantastic bike, but totally impractical, and all that carbon was just so fragile I was always afraid of damaging it.

I’m a stunted 5’8” and the S1 fits me perfectly. Just like the HP2S did, with not too much weight on the shoulders and wrists. I did 200 ‘B road’ miles on her the other day and I was fresh as daisy (though not quite GSA fresh).

I think I’ll get far more use out the S1 than the HP2S. as it’s a bit more practical (for spuperbike), as it has a fanny pad and bungee hooks.

Yes, the awesome power, handling and refinement just blew me away when I tested it.

The HP2S is a very unique and special bike (as you know) and I never thought I’d want another inline 4cyl bike. I’d ridden the latest jap offerings, and they never really excited me. But the S1 felt different and a bit special again (I don’t know how BMW do it). Have fun mate, don’t bother with ‘Rain mode’, put it straight into ‘Race mode’ and enjoy.
