From which side does one mount?

oldrascal got me thinking with his post of "handle bar flop".......So I was wondering.....

Do you mount from the right or the left side?

I myself, personally, being of sound mind, have a tendancy to mount from the left side, except in special cases, these can be anything from wearing trainers, in which case I leap from behind the bike after a long run up, to wellies which I use a stool!
When it's a full moon I mount from the right, don't ask why, 'cause I just do. On page sixtythird of the manual it clearly states that this can invalidate the warranty "if the bike is on the side stand..."...so I leave it on the centre stand...simples!!
A simple answer of Right or Lest, or even Left will do then I can correlate the finding and forget I ever asked such a stupid question

I usually mount from the right side, which is on the left when you are facing the right way from the back as you look at the bike from behind. When it's on the main stand in the garage I mount from the right side which is the wrong side as the right side which is the left side is too close to the wall when it's parked up. I hope this has cleared this up, and left you in no doubt as to the right way to do this.

I've always used the right for the right indicator, and the left for the left indicator...and was just wondering if everyone else did the same?...or even if others even used their fingers instead??

Why don't BMW fit both.. one each side.... it could save on some confusion

over what side to mount..

You could use one side one day, the other side on another day..

all you would have to do is remember what day it is, to avoid said confusion..

A diary could help here, do BMW do them? it would have to be in english of

course woulden't want to confuse matters..

Now look what you've started!......I removed the indicators for more speed, as they produce a drag coefficient of 0.345 jules per second and now use my arms!

'cos my dearly beloved, with 38 years of pillioning, gets on on the near-side and off to the off-side. Obvious really.

Of course when on the continent she gets on on the off-side and off on the near-side, but you probably knew that anyway!

I read that to save weight on next years model, the independantly operated left and right sidestands will have an ESA controlled stepper motor to operate a mechanical lock that joins them as one. This does away with the need to have a dedicated centre stand.
