was in the dealers asking about this today, and he said it was £100 fitted

Claims it needs to be activated by the canbus software or something, and said kit itself is £38 but said has to be fitted by them. Now i'm sure this is bollocks as i am certain i read on this site it just clips into the rear of the existing socket. I said this to him and he was adamant about it not doing that and going into the canbus wiring!

Is he talking shite?? Anyone got a pic of how it connects in to the wiring, and can i do it myself???

Cheers

£100  is taking the piss. Got my dealer to fit one to my 1200gsa and they charged me £45 which I thought was expensive but did not have the time to do it myself.

He's talkin sh-t.

The accessory socket kit comes with full fitting instructions and makes absolutely no mention of having to "activate" the canbus system.

The wiring for the new socket fits in behind the existing underseat socket.

The only guddle about fitting is that you need to remove the petrol tank. Then again I'm sure some folk have managed to "thread" the wiring under the tank without the need to remove the same.

Mind you I suppose if you take into account dealers fitting time and labour rates + parts £100 could be about right

Your dealer is having a laugh.

I bought the £38 kit. It comes with very clear and explicit instructions on how to fit it to the bike. It powers off the back of the existing rear socket. If you want to route the wire exactly as BMW state it involves taking the tank off, but this is straight forward. The trickest bit is drilling the hole.

Drilling the hole is well easy - its just a bit of a clench drilling a shiny new steed. If you look under the bike with your head by the front wheel where the accessory socket goes, you'll find a plastic ring proud of the panel marking where the hole should be.

I just drilled a pilot hole with a small drill bit, then made it progressively bigger with bigger drill bits, and then used a file to get the right shape. No need for a stepper drill bit - just easier.

Taking the tank off is daunting for the first time but very easy. Tank doesn't need to be empty as the fuel stays in (you may get 1 or two drips) - its just a tad easier.

Wiring it in is very easy - the BMW accessory socket comes with the right length cable which has a y-piece on the end. You simply disconnect the supply lead at the back of the existing accessory socket under the seat, plug in the new cable, and plug the supply lead to the new cable . Voila.

I cut mine to tap off another supply lead to power GPS and Autocom.

Took me about an hour when the bike was new. Took me 20 mins to remove it all before I sold the bike, and that includes removing and refitting the tank.

About to do the same again for my new GSA when I get round to it.

NOG price for Socket

Went in to North Oxford Garage to ask about this when the 12gs was in for a couple of bits. They sold the kit for 32 quid including VAT and then fitted it for sixteen more.

Whole lot sold and fitted for 48 quid.

Pretty good eh?

I got one from the Dealer, it just plugged into the back one thats under the seat.

I paid something like 70 cnd dollars for it. It even came with a template for drilling the hole.

What a pile of canbus crap. :spitfire

How come you removed it when you sold the bike?

Seems a bit off, to take off a piece that is an option on the new bike.

I might consider a second accessory socket once they've got the software sorted out so that the first one actually works........ :D

£5 from a truck stop and fitted as per above threads. connects to rear socket using 1 into 2 spade connecters.
