My 2010 K25 is leaking Brake Fluid at the reservoir, It has been driving me mad with it dribbling down the tank paint work over night, And after a ride today of about 100 Km it seems to have come out under some pressure and sprayed a little bit to the inside of the Bark Buster's. I have cleaned it all up today and checked all of the connections and found these 2 small Torq loose ish on the bottom, And have firmed them both up see attached photo, https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/0jz1...1818.jpg?rlkey=0s6x477vpe9rmb6h9h7bm9z8y&dl=0

Looking at the photo, that does not look to be a standard reservoir on your master cylinder.

It may be a trick of the lighting but it looks to be entirely black; the original is a translucent white plastic so that you can easily see the fluid level.

If it is a non standard reservoir, or it had been painted, then whoever did the work failed to tighten those screws. Maybe they overtightened and stripped the thread in the plastic ?

I think it is the original,

With very old fluid prehaps

Didnt the later units have a
Sponge in them

My twin cam master cylinder is dark green transparent plastic without a sponge , just the rubber diaphragm.
Hopes it stops the leak now that you have tightened the screws.

my 2010 bike had green fluid that was very dark - used up some blue I had lying around and next day it looked really dark again... opps that was the clutch - but I think the plastic reservoir is a darker colour on the later GS

Just been out to look at mine ...

Then realised i have muffs fitted atm DOH :blast

It is the original M/C, the early 1200 models have a white translucent reservoir, the later bikes are green translucent.

No standard one and its a kind of smoked plastic with the rubber insert in it.

was the level OK, if it was ever topped up / bled with used pads, you can end up with too high a level upon pad replacement

I'm surprised BM bikes seem to be the only reservoirs that behave upon fluid replacement - in 45 years, every bike other than a BM weeps out the top whenever you disturb the manu's original fill

In the photo that you attached, it seems to me that there is a part missing, please see below screenshot with the said part circled in red. My 2013 TC GSA was seeping fluid from the cap. I went all out and replaced the cap, the rubber seal and the circular clip thing and it cured the problem. You shouldn't be able to easily open the cap without a BMW tool or, some use a lace to push back the clips and then open the cap. I hope this helps?

My 2011 has the sponge fitted and it’s a clear translucent housing.

as per the parts drawing above its meant to have the rubber (part 4) and the plastic bracket (circled red) - I believe the sponge is a joke idea fitted to higher performance bike's like the K1300's to pretend to calm the fluid down as it gets sloshed about

Mines listed as smoked and with the sponge or Grille as they call it part number 32727727634 looks to be the same setup as the diagram. This image also shows it better: https://www.baum-bmwshop24.de/bmw-gittereinsatz-32727727634/

Worth remembering that if you have been topping up your brake fluid for awhile then one day put new pads in, you'll probably have too much fluid in which could cause leaks if not rebalanced.
