Front brake master cylinder cap tool?

Renewing the front brake pads soon and was wondering if you need to use the special BMW master cylinder cap removal tool to get the cap unscrewed (in case I need to remove any excess fluid when the brake pistons are pushed back in). Or has anyone used a makeshift device to do the job?

If its the same as my F700GS all you do is just unscrew by hand.

BMW have a specific tool to do this I see but I found it was very easy to press in the two locking tabs on the reservoir by just wrapping a piece of string around the body and twisting gently while unscrewing the cap.
