Hi All,

The front brake master cylinder on my 1100 is weeping and I have got the kit from Motorworks to (hopefully) repair it. Looking in the Haynes manual was as much help as a bubble-less spirit level so my plan is as follows:

Put many rags around the housing. Whip off the top, suck out the brake fluid with a syringe, do what needs to be done with the barrel and washers, squirt new brake fluid in with the syringe, put the top back on, tea and medals.

I was hoping that by not removing any fluid from lower than the reservoir that I wouldn't need to bleed the system.

Anyone done this? Any top tips/comments on my plan?

Cheers,
DA

Thats not a bad idea, you should not get much air in there doing it that way,I stripped my brakes a couple of weeks ago and needed to leave the bike with the lever tied back to the bar overnight to get all of the air out. normally I use those plastic syringes and a bit of tube to bleed the brakes backwards, which I think would work well for you if you only have air at the top of the system.

Lubricate the new seal with brake fluid before and during fitting.

When you’ve finished reconnecting and put a little fluid back in the reservoir, very gently push the brake pads back in on one calliper, this will force fluid back up through the master cylinder to flush out the air. Watch out for oil spurting up! Try to arrange the handlebars so the reservoir hole is at the highest point. Worked like charm for me!

Good luck :thumb2

As Stewart H said . Replaced mine this week . Gently squeeze the lever a few times until the bubbles stop , be careful it`s easy to squirt brake fluid everywhere . Tied back the lever & left overnight . Perfect .

That's another very good one, tried it and it works, just pull the lever back a very short distance, that expels the air, letting it go back again draws in the fluid, just do it all very slowly. well done Harry :thumb
