Front Brembo sintered pads - question

Fitted 350 miles ago. Newish Brembo discs. No stones in pads or disc. Had bad squeal today at very end of braking phase when braking lightly. Removed pads and found this (photos after cleaned the brake dust out of pitting). Both sets of pads similar condition. Don't think I have ever checked pads after a few hundred miles only, but was not expecting a new Brembo pad to look like that. Any ideas appreciated.

It does look like something has got stuck in the groove, at some point.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over a bit of edge chipping to a pad section, I've had it happen to my bikes in the past. Presumably caused by a small crack through the material at the edge letting go under the heat and pressure. If there are any deep cracks or delamination from the backing plate I might be concerned.

are they genuine Brembo pads?

even the way they fix to the back plate looks suspicious - most things you buy today are Chinese fakes… its a massive problem across automotive industry and almost everything else

also on the outer edge that's a massive ridge - suggesting your discs are a good few mm below min thickness, which is not a good idea

I wrote that both sets of pads are similar condition - same issue across all 4 pads

All 4 pads are pitted and have chunks missing. No other pads I have ever had have looked like that, even after 10k miles

I have same question about plate / pad join but I threw out old Brembo pads recently so don't have a control to check.

Discs are fairly new as per original post. No lip edge to speak of. Well well above min spec

I do not see how these can be original given pad material disintegration. Would be interesting to know if anyone else has experienced this

the structure of the pad material looks very coarse.... not what I would have expected

how did they feel.... as good / better than what u took out? I just took out a set of fazzled EBC garbage, horrid stuff - fell to bits on my XR200 years back. On the GS they got so hot and bothered towards end of life the discs went copper coloured.... lost a lot of braking power. I just threw them in a skip and fitted a set of Brembo SC compound pads on the front... Had some weird red/brown bedding in compound on them... seems to have cleaned up the discs and are working nicely at present

Retailler has been great. Glad I bought from a UK bike shop place. Returning them for a refund. Won't name the shop given how helpful they have been - and on a sunday.

Had been letting them bed in so don't have any meaningful feedback. In general I don't find much of a difference between EBC sintered and Brembo sintered. One point of difference is that the edges of the EBC plates are not quite flat, whereas Brembo are. I have wondered in the past if this contributes to EBCs being inclined to produce slight noises on initial braking more frequently than Brembos, but this is just a suspicion on my part and could easily be wrong, plus I have no real way of checking as there are so many variables.

A shop that accepts faulty returns on a Sunday should be named. We all want good service when things go wrong.

I used Ferrodo Platinum pads good working life and not silly money.
