Or there's the cheap & nasty way of doing it. I Dremmeled off all the flaky paint & corrosion off my '05 front cover 3 years back & applied lots of coats of black spray exhaust paint; still looks OK to me now. Cost minimal & one afternoon's work

Yup
I did my 1100 front cover and rocker covers years ago (front cover in-situ) using Hammerite smooth.
