has anyone fitted a front fender extender to the front of their 12GS(the short one that fits to the exsisting fender) ?What with winter on the way I would like to give abit of protection to the engine. Had one fitted on my old 1150 and was well worth it,otherwise its going to have to be Motorrad for a front fender extender !!!!

Cheers

I was in touch with Pyramid Plastics last month ( October), and was told that they do not produce a fender extender for the 12GS yet, but try again in a month or so as they are planning to produce one. If you find another supplier / manufacturer in the mean time let me know.
Also, NWS are at the prototype stage with a hugger and believe me you need one :D

Yes, i have recently fitted one to my 12, i think it's a Wunderlich item, i got it from SPC.

Some dude on this board called Garfieldus sells mudflags that attach to the front mudguard (WTF is a fender??) - I keep meaning to buy one but haven't got round to it yet.

Just fitted Dutch's Motorrad Concepts carbon mudguard. I got a "second" i.e. slightly imperfect model for £79.

It was a bit fiddly fitting it - front wheel in and out about 7 times. As it was a second, it had a slight twist in it so I had to play about with the supplied washers to get the fit correct.

A word of warning - the bolts holding the original mudguard on seem not to accurately match the threads in the fork brace. They are v.tight and uneven when unscrewing them. Great care & gentleness has to be taken when bolting the new carbon mudguard on as it is v.easy to cross thread them. I stripped the thread on one of the bolts, but luckily had a bunch of spare ones handy (they are the same diameter as 1200GS Tobinator bolts as it happens).

Also, on my mudguard, the recesses in the moulding that the bolts butt up against were not square with the fork brace, and the holes weren't in quite the right place. A bit of fiddling with a Dremel sorted out the holes, but it was a bit tricky getting the bolts tightened properly when they weren't mating squarely with the underside of the mudguard. Cue a bent bolt, replaced as before.

However, all this pales into insignificance once you see the finished fitted item. It looks really superb. I'm sure the proper (none seconds) items have a much better fit - my fault for being a tight git - but I'm v.impressed by the mudguard now it is securely fitted.

I now need a hugger to balance the rear and front of the bike properly!

Front Fenders

Andy

Thanks for the detailed & honest appraisal of our front fender (second's).......

Prospective purchasers may like to know that we have a totally new set of moulds in use for these front fenders, which have eliminated all the previous fitting issues as well as further enhancing the cosmetic appearance & quality.

Finally, we only have 3 front fender 'seconds' remaining & will not be offering any more in future....

Cheers

Yes, just to be clear, although I had a bit of hassle fitting it, that was more my fault (lack of mechanical sympathy) than the mudguard's fault.

The instructions that came with the mudguard were clear and simple, and correctly pointed out the fitting adjustments that were required due to the "second" nature of the mudguard. Everything was completely up front which I appreciated.

I'm well chuffed with the result and I'm sure that the latest moulds will make the whole fitting process easier.

Now saving up for a rear hugger :D

Extender fitted at SLM for £25. Lengthens mudgaurd by about 4 inches. Screwed/bolted with double-sided tape to seal joint. For real mudflap effect one might need to fit lorrie-size flap. So if keeping bike clean is reason for extender you are better of staying away from wet roads. I hope it will limit stone-chips on engine & manifold.
