Trying to work out how to mount a front guard to my R100TIC. I want to end up with something resembling the pic below (but without the plastic jug :D).

I reckon I have read that the original low guard mount also had some effect as a fork brace - is this right? And how dramatic is the difference without the guard mount in place?

My plan at the moment is to fabricate a higher aluminium or steel bracket to replace the original. There are no mounting holes on the lower triple clamp (apart from the steering damper holes) and I don't want to do a diassembly to drill some (mount would be too high anyway).

Did a google but couldn't find what I wanted. Most seem to favour the shorty type guard a la street scramblers but I want something more practical.

What do you reckon?

Those forks are identical to the mono g/s forks. The only difference is the mudguard mounting holes on the underside of the yolk and the spacer that sits in the bottom of the fork leg. The obvious solution is to drill small holes in the underside of your bottom yolk and mount the mudguard the same as a G/s.

I ran my Mono without a lower brace with no obvious problems at all but you could fit the G/s lower brace. BAMW sell a reproduction http://www.bamw.co.uk/parts/chassis.html or you could do it Aussie style and bend a rusty bit of metal yourself :D I tried one of the fork braces that were all the rage in the 80s and 90s but the mud built up on the tyre, clogged on the brace and ended up locking the wheel. If you're not running in mud they would be fine.

gaurd

if you wont it lower you could allways fix it to the fork brace and if thats to low macke up some distances I have lowerd all my front guards licke that on my Gs but 50 mm lower than the yockes to allow plenty of space for the wirring loom your front guard looks verry simler to a supermoto one you can pickem up on ebay

What size is that front wheel?

There are tubular braces for G/S forks with 21" wheels which give a reasonable clearance with them so should be a bit better with a 18 or 19".

If the forks are identical to the G/S forks they may already be drilled for a guard, so have a close look

With the standard G/S flat plate top triple and lower brace I could actually see the well worn forks twisting as I rode, and the fork action was terrible - took me back to my sprung hub Triumph days.

A SJ top triple and Flatracer tubular lower brace sorted the twisting and action out, and I have never had any problems with mud - the guard is in the underside of the brace so there is a relatively smooth underside and the guard is close enough to the wheel to cut most of the mud off.

But I stay out of mud where ever I can.
