I have had several jap sport bikes and I have found that a front mudflap is pretty useful at keeping lots of water/road dirt away from the engine, especially during my year round riding. I was thinking about putting one on my recently purchased R1100GS. Anyone else got one, and does it help? I notice that the standard mudguard is already quite long and I don't want to drill the mudguard and fit one if it's not going to help.

Cheers for any advice

Have also fitted a fender extender. Best 15 quid you will spend on the bike.(Not counting your next tank of petrol of course!!)
mark :)

You could always get a slightly more functional mud flap - this one stops any of the bike getting dirty.....

I've fitted fender extenders to my last two bikes.

I done away with the supplied double sided tape and screws,
a quick clean of the inside of the mudguard, then used Araldite so it's neater looking without the screws.

It keeps more dirt off than the original 1100 item...but maybe not as much as the one in Mike's post.

Fenda extenda with a smaller version of Mikes added on the bottom for good measure.........Keeps everything but very bottom of bashplate clean.

Fenda Extenda works fine for me, if you do add an extension to it make sure it very flexible or you'll rip the lot off on the first big kerb you ride off:)

Oh yes, didn't think of that!! could've been a bit frustrating!

I be off down to the local bike shop for one of those at the weekend then, araldite in hand!!

Cheers for the input

Gavin,

bought it on Ebay, originally designed to fit the rear of an airhead, IIRC.....

Definitely function overcoming form - pretty it ain't - effective it is (bit like the GS....)

Mike:)

Supplier?

So where can I buy a front fender extender for my 1150GS? Had one of the Pyramid ones for the 850, but don't see any mention of the 1150 version on their website

Definitely worth it

Fender extender keeps virtually the whole engine front clean. Attached mine with heavy duty outdoor (waterproof) Velcro.
Still there ...
