Front of bash plate has come away

Hi chaps
I bought a 2005 r1200 from a dealer and have just jet washed the bike and noticed the front of the bash plate hanging off. I went down to screw it back and noticed the rubber had come away from the engine.
My question is, does this look like how it was originally configured because it doesn't seem right to me. Also is it repairable do you think?

Just buy a replacement from motor works, looks std to me
 
But it's different to my old r1200gsa . It seems in this case that the rubber has been melted onto those 2 mounting points. On my GSA there was a bracket that attached to the front of the bash plate.
 
IIRC one of the bolts goes directly into the casing wheras the other screws in to a rubber mount that is just stuck on to the casing and on mine did come off or shear (i cant remember which) but some super glue fixed it
 
Yeah certainly does. Does anyone have any ideas about how to go about repairing this? Ideally I'd just use the bracket from the later model because glueing the 2 bits of rubber back to the engine isn't going to hold to any kind of use.
 
Buy new bobbins, they aren't expensive. If you don't want to get original ones then go to halfords and look in the exhaust section. 8mm exhaust isolators are the same thing and they are a couple of quid each.

Absolutely no problem with buying the original bobbins, what I'm trying to find out Is how BMW attach those bobbins to the engine? There are no holes so what adhesive? Due to the fact that I think that any adhesive I use will not be sufficient for the bash plate to fulfil its duty, is there an alternative ?
 
Both ends of the bobbins are the same I.E a male thread on both ends. One end screws into the engine the other has a nut on it. What your looking at is the remnants which is a metal disk with the threaded part still in the engine. Grab a pair of grips and unscrew it.

BMW ones are parallel but this will give you the idea:

I had this exact thing (04 GS) and bought the two front OEM mounts from Motorworks to replace the separated ones. But...couldn't get the remnants of one out of the engine. Basically a bit of rubber sticking out that you can't get a decent grip on. In the end, I replaced one and glued the awkward one. It's holding fine at the moment and it would probably have been immense amounts of fannying around to get it out properly. IIRC, they are two different types and the one I got out was the easier one, but it was a while ago
 
Several of us have tried and there is no way we can get those plates out that are screwed on, you just can't get a grip and they are corroded on and surrounded by silicone where the previous owner has just done a temporary repair job. There is even hard silicone in the bash plate itself . Does anyone know if the bracket etc... From later models fits? The hollow tubing for the bolt is present at the front bottom of the engine
 
Can you get a wedge or small cold chisel between the steel face of the rubber mount and the engine case?
Then turn it by hammering with a blunt cold chisel.
 
Mole grips on the remaining metal part should get that out. Or chisel it round. If you cant manage that take it to someone who can. Watch the bike doesn't fall on your head when your bashing at it.
 
I have an older type Mk1 aftermarket bash plate to fit to my Mk2 bike. It needs a new front bracket making up because the OEM Mk2 bracket won't line up.
