Front of bash plate has come away

I'm trying to say mk1 and mk2 front bash plates are not the same so the Mk2 bracket won't line up with mk1 bash plate

seized plate

The thing to use is a six inch pair of steelsons I have got several out like this no bother, mole grips you will find are the most useless tools ever invented, good for holding bits together for welding but other wise crap.

Did I mention that I live in a block of flats in London? I can't really weld things in the street :) I have tried again but no luck. Because the dealer I bought it from is prepared to pay for the repair I phoned up sbw motorrad but they don't want to get involved because it's a nightmare.

If not already done take the bash plate off.
The rubber mount ends are washers with M6 or M8 studs welded on. Hammer (an old) screwdriver between washer and engine case and bend washer 90degrees. You can now use pipe pliers or mole grip to unscrew the thing.
Don't forget it screws down. ;)

Check condition of back ones you might need four.

yea great idea wedge screwdriver in and lever, break the casting, mikeyboy has the right idea,i have a mig here and would offer to do it he brought the bike to me but im off on me holibobs tomorrow.

The casting is not made of porcelain and any job like this needs a modicum of common sense. The washer is only 1 or 1.5mm thick so its hardly going to put up a fight.

Obviously if you have access to arc welding gear thats the best option. One time I did some arc welding on a (1990s) bike. The alternator reg failed and cooked the battery a few weeks later. I had disconnected the battery and it may have been co-incidence, but now I disconnect the alternator, ECU and battery.

Arc weld is often the very best way to shift seized studs/bolts apart from strange rubber mounts.
