Front shock a bit harsh (non-ESA) woth trying YSS units?

yes.. still thinking of a Hyperpro progressive spring on the stock shocker... how did they transform yours?... less harsh on the bumps but still as firm is what I'm after

The ride was more compliant and had an improved ride quality (not as good as aftermarket but still better than stock), strange that your 1250 basic has an issue with the front shock , on my 2018 model r1200gsa Basic the shocks both front and rear are excellent for being 'basic' limited adjusable units ..... ride is superb compared to my previous 2014 ESA equipped GSA TE

No.. mine is a 2015 1200... back is fine.. just find the front a bit harsh at times? maybe me that just gets tired these days... :)
 
Your right.. I'm getting the Harley out... at least I know whats up with that!!

Good idea, then you will find your GS a riding god again..............:beerjug: but admit I miss my Harley grin so much, and just taking it to bits was also loads of fun.
 
Went out this AM for a quick blast up the Dales.. sitting a bit further forward over the tank, the shock works well... got to say with the touring screen on, you don't realise how fast you are going... guess its more distance two up where its a tad stiff?... not sure.. if I did get a fully adjustable one, id play about and set it to what felt best... and it would probably be to the settings this is at LOL ??

Guess this is so true then.........

 
It sounds more like the rear sitting to low than the front being hard.
Try upping the preload on the rear shock, this should put a bit more weight on the front.

could be worth a try... I have the pre-load wound right off now for 1 up riding... will give it a go... ;)
 
There are loads of vids on youtube showing how to set up rider sag. This is important to have it set correctly as it keeps the bikes attitude and weight distribution correct.

Esa set to ROAD and Auto let it do the magic............unless solo and bang it on Dynamic a lot more fun

yes, I know how to measure sag... assuming the non-ESA and the ESA units are the same?... I have 200mm of travel... so using 30% it should sag we me on it in my gear 60mm ... and it does.. spot on without any pre-load applied at all...
maybe this makes the spring a tad stiff... or maybe it just needs to bed in a bit more... ?

Did check my tyre presures last night 32 in the rear!.. whats gone on there I don't know.. must be leaking...

would a soft rear make the front appear hard??..

:jes nearly spat my coffee out, bump it up to 38 go ride solo, and you will have your answer for sure......:D pop some fairy liquid on the valve, could be valve not tight.
 
Yes.. very good :)

Had the wheel off, layed flat... snoop around the LH tyre to rim.. nothing... same on RH... no objects in the tyre... valve okay nothing at all??..

will take it to garage tomorrow, let them take it off and re-seal.. and a new valve FFS...

This maybe the answer :)
