Bin for a ride today, got home and the front mudguard has some oil on it and the front shock is damp with oil, my diagnosis is that the front shock has gone belly up, 1200GSA, 07 11,000miles.

Question is, what is the best solution :nenau ,

BMW stock ?
Wilbers ?
Ohlins ?
DIY or dealer fitting ?

What a weekend for this to happen, FFS, :blast

Whatever you buy it's easy to fit yourself - there's tons of 'HOWTO's' about.

Ohlins expensive but good - Wilbers cheaper and as good - BMW original part Okay - Easy to fit yourself as long as you have a good Torx as they are fitted with the factory thread seal which is tough ( I have changed mine for Wilbers and i found the lower bolt a real tight bastard , i even thought at one point it was a left hand thread !)
I think the original can be rebuilt and would be the cheapest alternative .
If you change the front for a better after market shock it will only be a matter of time before you change the rear as it will show up the weakness in the rear ( with regard to suspension quality) so this will be an expensive route.
Give John Gaskil at REVS SUSPENSION 0121 501 3321 as he is a quality suspension engineer , say Dave Porter said to call as he is always helpful and what he does not know ........... Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys, I have ordered one from BM, due in next Sat and will give it the DIY treatment.

Isnt 11,000 miles a bit poor for the failure :nenau

To remove tight thread locked bolts do as the manual states and heat the thread. Not only does this expand making it looser but it also melts the thread lock.
