just swapped the front shock absorber spring over on my 1150GSA :beerjug:

i got a Purple Hyperpro spring which is a progressive spring and a direct replacement for the OEM BMW Grey SHOWA spring.

i bought the hyperpro spring replacement tool from motorworks, used it for about 20 minutes and packed it back up and returned it to motorworks.

they offer this service where you buy the tool for £70 + P&P and then if you send it back in full working order they will refund you £60. (obviously it costs a few £ to return it to them using a signed for service too. :rob

it was really, really easy to do this and certainly builds confidence when working on the bike, i used this great guide with photos too:

looking forward to trying it out whilst my Ohlins is serviced...£££££

only dilema now is trying to decide between the purple or the yellow spring appearance under the front beak, cant see it being as good as the Ohlins though.....:augie

cheers Tully

Can you give us a clue as to what the results are please.

Looking at doing this to mine as the rear shock feels mighty soft with a decent weight passenger on the rear. Max preload isn't saving it from feeling like a chopper :(

You just described my bike down to a tee!

Did mine a few years back now, rebuilt rear with hyperpro spring and it felt very "taught" the bumps in the road were felt but it felt very stable, unlike before when the bumps in the road loosened my fillings due to no damping.

Just the rear was very good, I got the front spring too but it made little difference, if anything made the front slightly higher.
I am 20K down the line now and I think the damping is starting to go off again but is not totally gone.
Two up and a ton of luggage the bike handles very well, I think the springs have a higher rating.

thanks for your post, alot of guys have said similar on various threads and people ive spoken to - will let you know my thoughts when ive swapped em :thumb2

I ride mainly gravel roads not tar, the rear I had the standard GSA shock serviced and a Progressive HYPERPRO GSA spring fitted it was harsh for the first few hundred km.s but is now 100%.

The front is a different story, spring is too harsh in my view, but I think it is a poor shock not the spring

been out a couple of times and i have to say it is quite a strong spring, feels good on smooth roads but its quite harsh over bumps etc

pleased with the result though, will leave it on for a couple of months and see how it settles down

did 200 miles 2 up around east sussex down to the coast yesterday, very bumpy roads near beachy head were a great test pad.

the sportbikes were bobbing up n down like budgies :comfort, my GSA was solid and handled the roads great yesterday, reckon the more you load the bike the better this HyperPro spring performs :blagblah

I found the same, 2 up tons of luggage and handles just fine

I seem to remember in previous post on the subject of refurbishing the original shocks that when tested the springs were found to be absolutely fine - the problems lay with the shocks internals.
