Hi all,

Trying to get the front sprocket off my 650gs. The nut was difficult as there was some corrosion - but the sprocket - blimay. Just bought a 3 legged puller from halfords and managed to break one of the sprocket teeth - feck!! Now what..

I've never had this problem on my g650.

What sort of condition is the sprocket in? is it badly corroded also?

Penetrating oil/hot air gun/use a flat piece of steel under the puller legs to spread the load.

Try penetrating fluid with a 3 legged slide hammer and it will come straight off no problems, if you need to borrow one or want me to do it for you just give me a shout.

Thanks for the answers guys. - Rang bmw first thing and they said that they normally have to grind them off due to it being a press fit!! So asked them to do it for me rather than risk any damage to the bike. £108 quid though - ouch!!

Thanks SJ

Grinding it off. :eek

It's fucked .... it's got a tooth missing

:beerjug:

As opposed to one tooth left.....

Not mine I hasten to add, off my brothers 640 adv.

This is common on the 650 twins (800cc)..
You cant put heat near it because of a rubber seal behind the sprocket..
You cant use a "pull hammer" because the gearbox bearings on the final drive shaft were not designed for lateral movement so banging on the shaft will fubar the gearbox bearings..
I have used a professional 3 leg puller with an impact gun and still it wont move...The ONLY way to get it off is a grinder, but don't grind the output shaft...good luck
