I have procured a 10 metre length of 22mm hex bar from a mate who is a steel stockist for teh total price of £30. Given that we each need about 20cm of 22m hex bar to do the job I can make roughly 50 of these tools for £40 (inc cutting discs).

So how does £2.50 per tool delivered sound with any profit being given to www.roundthebend.org.uk?

pm me if you're interested.

erm I amaze myself with my own stupidity, where exactly is that 22m hex needed in the front wheel?

On the 12GS and GSA BMW have seen fit to make the front spindle removable only by a 22mm special tool which is a hex bar or 22mm nut with a socket welded on.

When I queiried this at Motorrad central in Glasgow they muttered something uncomplimentary about BMW and lent me a 4" length of hex bar which slides in and is themn turned by either 22mm socket or spanner and allow correct torquing of the spindle.

NB This does not apply to 1150s!

bloody glad I got an 1150 was looking incase I needed it for HP but a pair of mole grips and a hammer works fine

There's heaps of interest (not surprising at £2.50) so once I've got them cut and ready to go I'll let everyone know how to pay.

I should have the bars ready for early next week.

Looks like 10 gone already!

There is no limit to the supply as I can as much hex bar as I can eat. I'll confirm all the details tomorrow hopefully including delivery time.

OOO?? Ok you've twisted me arm. Always handy to have a second one in the tool role. :thumb

Count me in.

Val.

It fits into the front axel so you can torque it prior to securing the pinch bolts. :thumb

A photo always helps - this is a diy 'bodge' one but doing the same job :-)

Good value 'rdover', I'd have one if I hadn't already bought one some time back.

Thanks for the picture!

Perhaps I do want one cos the one in the HP is made from old ali cans and is all stripped and stuffed from previous hooligan owner.

bike going in to get new axle fitted will ask'em about it.

Unsurprisingly my inbox is filling up with messages saying "yes please, how do I pay?".

The bar is being delivered later this week and then I've got to piss the neighbours off by cutting 50 little bars out of a big one. I will post back here (and reply to all the pm's) once I am certain of all the details.

Thanks for all the interest but please don't be surprised if there now follows a bit of radio silence.

Richard

tool

i'll have two please (one for a mate). let's know how to pay when you're ready

gary

Put me down for one as well please.

Who else thinks its crap that they charge so much for the bike that needs special tools to remove both wheels and they are not in the toolkit ? Pennypinching load of Kr**ts.

OK news back from my pal.

Cost per 10cm length including cutting, packing and postage is £3 per tool. I think £1 per tool for charity is a reasonable amount so the total £4 per tool. I know this is more than originally thought but it is still mega cheap!

£4 per tool

paypal to [email protected] is preferred. They should be ready to ship early/mid next week.
