For a long time, I've been using Terrapin FTP and it worked OK....but a few weeks ago, it started misbehaving and for three days I couldn't even get past the first few files on an update 
I tried a few alternatives, including setting up Dreamweaver to do the FTP for me itself, but didn't get on to well with that, so I finally settled on CORE FTP LE (free!
)
It's amazingly quick.....it's not once dropped a connection or stalled, which is what Terrapin was doing, it's simple to use and as mentioned, it's free
I've no connection with the company , but I'm extremely happy with it so I thought I'd pass it on
