Hi, does anyone know where I can get a mounting plate/bracket for a Rotopax or similar fuel can, I'm looking for poss 4 litre extra capacity to mount in place of the panniers on a Gs Rallye (not GSA)

I've tried google but must be using the wrong search words..

snaponphil, am I right in assuming that the GS Rallye has the vario mounts? If that is the case, there is nothing available as default for rotopax mounting in place of the varios.

Even if you have the alu pannier frames fitted, all I have seen are people building their own solutions for mounting rotopax.

If that is where you want to mount Mark Hooton should be able to fabricate a solution for you.

The other clean options would be to mount it in place of the rear seat (if you don't have the one piece rally seat) or mount it where the top box goes. A standard rotopax mounting bracket can be bolted on there.

Hi, yes I'm wanting it to mount on where the vario would mount, I don't want to take off the top box & also when I travel I use a large roll bag acros the rear seat.
I wanted to fit a fuel can on one side & a adventure style tool box on the other, they won't add too much width to the rear of the bike, unlike panniers.

I think you need to get a set of pannier racks first, there aren't any brackets available for a rotopax fuel can to Vario mounting points. If you got the GSA pannier racks, you could mount the toolbox on the left side, then perhaps use something like this to mount a Rotopax on the right hand side? http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk/r1200gsa-lc-soft-luggage-heat-shield-216-p.asp

The Rotopax would be vulnerable though don't you think? You can get a mounting plate that goes in place of the rear seat? then just strap your bag over it. There is a bracket available so you can fit the tool box without pannier rails in place.

Then Mark Hooton's your man! He can build you a frame that uses the three vario mounting points (two on the top rack and one on the footrest) and thinking about it, it will look neat as well.

Thanks guys, I'll give this some more thought, I'll check out the GSA pannier rails but I didn't want to replace the vario top box with alloy..

Why not remove rear seat and grab rails, fit cover plate with rotopax mounting, strap bag on rotopax?

No overall solution, although I did manage to pick up some used GSA pannier rails on Saturday afternoon, I'm now looking at fabricating a stainless plate to mount a touratech style tool box to the inner n/s pannier rack £ a Rotapax on the outside in place of the pannier. ( I generally use a seat mounted roll bag)
I'll keep you updated just need a piece of stainless laser cut at the right price to keep things neat & Rudy..

What on earth is it going to look like with all that gubbins strapped to it? Other Rallye owners will give you a very wide berth :D

Why don't you just buy a damaged pannier then cut it up to use the base to mount the Rotopax on?

Update, nearly there

Quick update, leaving for Garmisch tomorrow evening, Hull Ferry..
fitted the pannier rails off a GSA Lc, also worth noting u really need the footrest mounts especially for the O/s rail.. (expensive.!)
Then quick fabrication of an infil panel out of alloy, needed it quick to use so final plate will be 2mm stainless..
also worth mentioning it's allowed me to fit a touratech stash box nicely hidden for not so regular items..
I went for the 6.6L Fuel can in the end, it doesn't look out of place as it's only 1/3rd the size of a pannier..

Good work there. :thumb

Do you plan to sling soft bags on top?

Ride safe and enjoy Garmisch.

Yes I've got an old Ish bmw soft bag that I put my normal clothes in, cash, phone chargers etc to unclip from pillion seat to take into hotels, keeps the load light & central.
I use a Pacsafe mesh net over it when parked up at events etc..

What about the peg packer system by bestrest products. Using the pillion footrest mounts makes some sense as the weight would be low and sort of out of the way. Worth considering methinks. What about thinking of this type of solution Mark Hooton
Cheers Simmo
