Another option may be an H shaped plate mounted under the top box giving a mounting point next to either side of the top box
 
What about the peg packer system by bestrest products. Using the pillion footrest mounts makes some sense as the weight would be low and sort of out of the way. Worth considering methinks. What about thinking of this type of solution Mark Hooton

There you go. Lots of interesting stuff there. The peg packer system looks like a great solution for carrying heavy stuff. I reckon worth a look. Easily remove and use footrests when not required.

Interesting mount, I wanted to keep the bike as slim as I reasonably could at the rear, I've got the desired result just need a mounting plate professionally made & it'll do for now..
