Hi,

I brought my GSA earlier this year in march, it is an 06 GSA. Having done about 12,000 miles so far, i have struggled to get more than 220 miles from a full tank. Averaging about 29 to 35 miles to the gallon, i was wondering if anyone else had the same fuel consumption issue or what is your experience when it comes to fuel consumption.

Thanks

i get about 47-50,yours does seem a bit thirsty

Are you using 5th and 6th gears?? :blast

Seriously, that's really low MPGs. Do you do a lot of town riding?

My 05 GS (non Adv) returns 48+ every time.

You sir have a major problem. Even if you cane the living bejesus out of it you should get much better than that!!

If I were you, I'd book the bike in with Steptoe and get down the M40 so he can run his magic fingers over it :thumb

I get 325 miles from a tank at about 52mpg and I expect to improve on that when I eventually stop looning about like teenager with a new toy. :augie

I could get 225 from the standard GS tank so I think you have an issue (brakes seriously binding / tank leak / dodgy engine stuff) and should get it looked at a bit. Assuming of course that you don't ride at 100mph all day long with full panniers and a pillion of a robust nature, in which case 220 from a tank is probably on the money.

petrol consumption is always a difficult one for me , because I usually don't fill to the exact same level each time. I tend to throw in say 30 euro worth then zero and go out and run till it needs a refill. I done rough estimates several times and rarely have come up with less than 55mpg but I do very little town riding. I think that a good mileage for a 1200 should be about 48 mpg overall. If I every got less than 45 mpg I would be worried.

Try briming the tank then a 100 miles and refill see what you get. There was a thread on here about a GSA tank fault only drawing fuel from one side of the tank resulting in a low range, may be a search would show it up. Just a thought do you have a trip comp? Try resetting to zero and see if it shows a higher mpg cause if it's never been reset will show a real low mpg. Also as Lunc says get the brakes checked specially the rear my 09 had a stuck caliper but you could feel it dragging the bike when moving about.

Fuel Consumption (GS)

Not to hijack a GSA thread but opinions on my GS consumption wld b appreciated.
Mine's 2012 GS (5 weeks old). Done c1800m averaging 80m per day with a combination of cross London riding, 20m motorway & as many again on A / B roads. Currently a full tank (brim) to 3 bars (fuel warning) getting me abt 135m. Sound right?
Thanks

What does that translate to in simple miles per gallon?

As a reasonable rough rule of thumb most bikes will return (and excuse the mixing if Imperial and Metric units) about 10 miles per litre of fuel burned.

that would be aprox 45mpg if you want to keep it all imperial.

I can get wildly varying consumption figures ranging from around 42 mpg and I have seen as high as 59 mpg. It all depends what I am doing, poor when I am driving like a twat and round the town all the time and good when I am 2 up with the kitchen and wardrobe attached on holiday meandering along country roads It also saves me getting a dig in the ribs from SWMBO :thumb
Never have I managed to get it anywhere near as low as that though so check your figures as above in case your gauge is stuffed or the suction pump is duff. If they pan out, then get it fixed.

Typically 45mpg (mixed roads), 52 at best if pottering and 38 if riding as hard as I can.

2011 GSA with panniers

Wot he said!

Assuming you are measuring correctly you should get at least over 45 mpg over mixed riding. Over the years of riding GSs of varuious types (1150, 1200GS, 1200GSA) I have never gone below the 40s event two up fully laden...you sir have a problem.

Cheers

I get just over 50mpg from my 2011 GSA. I fill up when the range drops to 50 odd miles, generally done around 300 miles by then.

I always fill up with bike on the side-stand, how much extra can you get in with it on centre stand?

The bike is either broken or you are riding everywhere at 130 mph or you can't do maths!

Yep, around ten miles per litre which is around 45mpg with boxes and twisty hilly roads

FP.

I seem to get around 42mpg with mixed riding, but I guess in town I ride pretty hard and on my own private motorways I ride pretty fast. I've also got a remus exhaust (not full system)

I consistantly get over 400 miles per tankful on my 06 GSA and I normally run it down to a 20 mile range before filling up which if you believe the tank holds 33 litres (I've filled mine with almost 36 litres before now) gives me an average mpg of around 56.6

Out of interest, my average mpg on the Board Computer reads 54.3mpg

I get less than 40 all the time on the tc, used to get 40-42 on the 08 bike

45.5 is amazing for all, kinds of riding.

I managed 30mpg today, but did get the bike over 130mph in a few places :)
