Fuel Consumption

Temperature does affect the fuel consumption. My 1150 would routinely do about 30miles fewer per tank in the middle of winter compared to a really hot summer. The 1200s seem less affected though and there's no way the cold alone should drop consumption down to 40 mpg

I'm not talking about atmospheric temperature - I'm talking about engine temperature. If the engine control unit thinks the engine is still cold it will try to deliver a richer mixture and that make a huge difference - ever had a sticky choke cable on an 1150 ;-)

Depends on the distance your doing in cold weather. It's well known that trips of under 20 miles in cold weather has a big effective on fuel consumption. The engine takes far longer to heat so it uses more fuel during that time. I would imagine an aircooled bike would show this even more because it doesn't have any real temperature control so will take even longer to heat. I get about 50 mles less range on the bike when it's cold, I loose about 80 miles from the car as well. I tend to do a lot more short trips in the winter as well especially on the bike.

2008 gsa

21000 miles did 370 miles 2 up fully loaded in italy last year all sorts of roads inc passes no fuel warning light, now at home 1 up in very cold weather filling up around 285-300 thats when the orange warning triangle comes on, Computer says its doing between 41-43 mpg not great but better than my car putting between 29-30l in at every fill, even managed 32l once.:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah

Does you can make you feel as alive as your bike?:D
