My 1200GSA '07 does no more than 49.5mpg rural/urban and it drops to 46mpg on the m'way.
This is the first motor I have had that uses more fuel on the m'way!

It used to do abour 48mpg rural until I removed the cat.

Having chatted to other GS owners it seems this is the norn, but why does the KT1200 do 60mpg on the m'way, as I understand the engines are the same, just the gearing is taller on the KT, but 11mpg difference?
Also the KT is 98RON and the GS is 95RON, maybe the KT is a lower compression engine?

I see the same thing, in my case I think its down to the panniers (if you have them fitted) being not very aero-dynamic at fast speeds. I normally get ~50mpg on my commute to work to London, with filtering and a decent mix of dual carraigeways/motorway (25M each way), but this can go down to 42-45mpg with enthusiastic acceleration and motorway, or just two up dual carraigeway riding.

Also, my mpg drops considerably with super-unleaded, which also was a suprise, as you think it would need slightly less fuel to acheive the same power.

Added to the fact I am neither, small (6"6), light (17.5St), probably doesn't help the cause. Do squished fly's/moths slow you down, as I am collecting a nice film to the front of the bike, that really ought to be cleaned off, at some point.

Used to get 51 before the last BMW software update and now only get 46.:blast

I would imagine the the touring version gets better mpg because of it`s aerodynamics the GS isn`t exactly aerodynamic in fact I would say a house brick would present a cleaner profile in the wind.

It`s like my other bike a Fazer 1000 has a R1 engine and gets better fuel economy up to around 85mph 50mpg, but can`t match the slippery aerodynamics of the R1 once above that in fact at warp speeds I was getting 25mpg and the R1 35mpg

Yup. Aerodynamics...

1200GS = 100bhp (ish) & 130mph top speed.

ZZR600 = 95 bhp & 160mph top speed.

No matter how I ride the biplane, I seem to get 45mpg. Am trying super unleaded to see if it makes any difference.

aerodynamics.... how fast do you cruise on the motorway? On my plain GS I see abt 30% difference between 75 and 90mph....

In London (my 8miles daily commute) mine has been doing abt 38mpg for the record... I.e it does 175miles before it needs 19lt top up....

I try to sit at about 85 on m'ways, on longer hauls it tends to sneak up to 90ish.
Yesterday I reset my avg trip (first time for approx 8 months) and having done approx 30 miles (A & B roads) it is avg'ing 51, but that will drop I am sure.

Well,

From buying the bike I have got the following mpg per tank full

42,45,45,31,40,41,38,37,48,46,37,41,45,44 over a total of 3900 miles

The last 2 were achieved without panniers on and the ones in the 30's were, well a bit enthusiastic !!!

These figures are calculated on my iphone and bear no resemblance whatsoever to the dash readout.

Overall average is 41.60 mpg

I tend to be quite brisk and not get left behind much.

I recon I'm getting about 10 miles per litre on average which happens to be the same as my Tiger 1050 and also my 07 R1 !!

Have to say though compared to a 2008 Fazer I had this is great - I often saw 28 mpg on that :augie

Forgot to mention, the bike has been run on Super unleaded as dealer told me it was better for MPG ! and has no cat and a mivv pipe for the last four fills
