Took my 0912gsa for a short spin today checked the tank range said 85miles
10 miles later said 87 another 10 miles said 90:thumb2 so it seems these special bikes can even create there own fuel as you ride, well done bmw:thumb i wonder if the cars are the same:confused:

Try a long spin:

Autobahn frenzy = 35mpg

Mountain bimble = 70mpg

...calculated on tanks of fuel, not numbers on computer.

:beerjug:

That sort of thing is normal with any mpg computer - it's dynamic.

Some fluctuation in range is normal as riding style or road conditions change, especially if the system has been recently reset. After half a tank the system get a good overall average figure and settles down to steadily reducing range However my GSA would show half a tank and a 300 miles range one minute, then show low fuel with a range of 150+ miles which dropped by one mile every hundred yards or so. Either that or one day would show 100 mile range and the next 250!!.
Dealer told me they had a number of problems with the system and have now replaced the tank sensor twice. Now seems to have settled down but until I am sure still reset the trip on every fill up. Its a bloody heavy bike to push.

yes they are - my 320d is identical as was my Saab

just shows how pointless these things are.:augie

I wouldn't say pointless, just not very accurate.

Then again, how would you measure the level in a tank that is sloshing about.
It can be done but its bloody difficult (i.e. expensive).

I use my fuel tank gauge to give me a heads up when its getting a bit low.

The very reason I leave the darn computer off the extra's list! :)

The fuel range is constantly recalculated depending upon your current riding/driving style i.e. whether you're in town, cruising at 70mph or thrashing the tits off it

My 2008 Mondeo TDCi does exactly the same thing, which can be alarming as it'll show, say, 50 miles left when I turn off the M62 on the way home from London, but that will plummet to zero by the time I've driven the last 20 miles home through the Pennines thrashing the tits off it :thumb2

How about replacing it with a fuel tap, with a 5 litre reserve???

Nah! Crap idea - never catch on!:augie
