Fuel Filter.. at 24k replacement

Luckily - I spotted it - email with PDF sent to the newbie who will shortly become a site sponsor - undoubtably ;)

Just my opinion, how many of you change the petrol filter in your car?

Has anyone here ran their bike without changing the filter for an extended time ? How many miles?
errrrrr, me :hide
said in a whisper - "been meaning to change it, honestly! It's never been done and it just turned 60,000mls"
Not spent much time in dusty places though :nenau

Changed mine when I bought the 1150GS with 128,000 kilometres on it. I reckon it was the first time it had been changed as the date on the filter predated the commission date of the bike by a couple of months. Replaced it with a Holden Commodore aftermarket filter and put it in the space that the ABS gumpf would go if it was fitted. Alot of black stuff poured out of the old filter.

Caused rough running

Mine was changed at only 16,000. Bike was running rough and after checking everything else, Brian Giles (top bloke!), suggested trying a filter change. Sure enough, it was partially blocked and was the source of the problem.

Now when the hell did I buy that crap fuel...?

Did a filter change on both my 1150 GS and 850R. Amazing how much crap there was at the bottom of both tanks and on opening old filters seemed to justify the change intervals. 850R change was straightforward and 'by the book'. GS one was problematic due to 4 sheared bolts on the filter housing - has to drill these out and replace them. Used WD40 to no great effect (on this occasion).

Cheers
