My fuel warning lamp comes on already after 14 liters, and this is like 2 l early. I'm sure it can be adjusted, anyone know how?

I bet this has been asked before, but I've searched for an hour now...

You need to bring it in for calibration, after that make sure you fill the beast with fuel most of the times, that's the reason most people get problems with the gauge (quoted by my mechanic).

If its the GS, that is pretty much par for the course, my guage stays on full for the first 180km, then over the next 60km its goes from full to one bar and the warning comes on telling me I have 70km left, I fill up and rarely get more than 14 or 15 ltrs in. So I reset the trip at every fill up to be sure. The gauge is a nice guide, but you really need to get use to the mileage you bike does.

Mine is way out on a full tank, indicating about 250 mile range compared to the real world range of 160 - 200 miles.

It seems to overestimate for quite a while, after 100 miles it will still be showing about 120 left, but then it starts getting itself on track and counts down extremely accurately from @60 miles down to 15 miles (as low as I ever let it get) at which point it takes about 17 litres (so should do another 20 miles if you can run it right down to empty)

The light comes on at about 40 miles left so that is when I tend to look for fuel, and I almost always fill it right up to the brim.

same on mine (but in miles!), lamp is bang on, 36/37 miles to go each time

does anyone use the gauge, those of us in the UK can surely find a garage within 40 miles warning?

I had a KTM before, fuel lamp only, no gauge, no problems

Didn't quite understand, did you mean fill it all the way up? I always do that. (Is there any reason not to?)

The gage is linear and fine, the only problem is that the light comes on too soon.

Aah, your trip computor bases it's range on current consumption and depends on your riding at the time. If you were to be riding very gently you'd get near the 250 I would think. I've seen nearly 600 range on my ADV in the US when we've been bimbling round but of course it never gets there:D

However, If you wind it on for a few miles of spirited riding, your estimated range falls dramatically:eek:

Mine has always been very accurate and when it says 1 mile left.......it means it:blast

If I fill mine to half way (about £22 worth of fuel [uk]) the Range states around 280 miles left. If I fill it to completely full, the Range says around 280 miles.

Yes, thats right, exactly the same!

It works fine and reliably when it gets nearer empty but it would be nice if BMW actually worked these idiosyncrasies out of these bikes.

Just irritates me thats all.

Lads , stupid question I know , but is the tank ,16ltrs plus 4 reserve or 20 ltrs plus 4 reserve .

Thx
