I had my fuel gauge fixed on Wednesday and then on the ride home tonight it broke again in exactly the same way. It'd only done approx 50miles since I picked the bike back up. I got the yellow triangle of doom, "fuel" flashing in the display, all fuel bars disappeared, and the range went from 92 to 0 in about a mile. To say I'm annoyed is an understatement . Thats the spot light switch and 2 fuel gauges now. Just need the FD and FPC and I'll have the full set

Just carry a stick, dip the tank at regular intervals and then you'll be right:beerjug:

Lol, perhaps BMW need to go back to something basic like this. To be honest it's not so much the gauge not working, but the time and money it costs to travel to the dealer and back. I have a busy schedule at the best of times.

The stick would be a more reliable indicator:D

In an effort to save weight BMW use the tape on 1200's, unlike on the 1100/1150's they use a proper fuel tank sender & float

Only weighs a few grammes, but you gotta save weight the designers said:blast

Sounds like a cock of a system

No problems here.

Snerk's, calm down a bit, I've had, as you probably know three trips to the main dealer for fuel gauge problems, however, the present set up has lasted over 6K miles :bounce1:nenau touch wood :augie

A small price to pay for owning such a prestige mark

Best regards Stretch :D:D:D

Lol, I'm not that mad really, although on re-reading my initial thread it does sound like I've blown a gasket  like I've already said it's more to do with the time and money trekking to the dealer. It takes a lot of forward planning to get the time to make the journey. Also, 2days and 50 miles is a pretty poor effort

Well I did think about stomping around the showroom then throwing myself on the floor screaming, but I thought I'd rise above it ;)

I'm not one to cause a scene to be honest, I just rant on forums instead

I can't tell if you're on the wind up, or if you actually worked on my bike?

And also what do you mean by what's the point? If you're referring to kicking and screaming, I don't think anyone was being serious. I was being ironic anyway hence the ;)

I think most people here realise that the fault is with BMW and not the dealer and so no point taking it out on them. However, from a consumer point of view it is frustrating to get faults, especially from a premium product from a premium brand, and also after such a short space of time.

:tears:tears:tears

I bet the mechanics are just as frustrated with repeat corrective work:mad::blast

I agree it is frustrating for dealer and customer:tears

I think BMW have taken some technology too far on some things, in turn this has affected reliability of certain items....................hence the frustrations

Use the trip meter, put a small piece of tape over the flashing light on the dash and a calm will return to your life:thumb

Snerkers, won't they come and pick your bike up?

My clutch has just started slipping :blast I've spoken with my (not so local) dealer and he's sending his driver over in a van to collect the bike. (A good 130 mile round trip)

9 months ago or so I was booked in for a new tyre pressure sensor valve and new tyres - a while i wait job. There was a feck up in the work shop I sat there for about three hours, the manager then sheepishly told me I'd have to take a demo bike home 'cos the work wouldn't be done today, and then I got a ridculously over the top bill.

I sent in a polite but very stinging letter, and now the guy remembers me!

Phone call yesterday re clutch ..... 'yes Mr Lamb, no Mr Lamb, we'll pick it up and deliver it back to you on Friday My lamb .....'

There's no point screaming and shouting as you say, but there is a time to tell 'em to pull all the stops out for a loyal customer or you'll be writing to head office.... :thumb2

Sounds like a bad batch of fuel guage senders to me. Some work, some never work, and some have no problems = either bad design that works occasionally, or bad build quality that means it's pot luck.

Sort of like the same with the FD's.

Send a Van for a bike with a faulty fuel guage, now that is dreaming, Giles

Clutch yes, that is reality

...... I get your point,
The conversation I had with the dealer was along the lines of, 'I'm working and can't get over to you...' ''well we'll come and pick it up then...'.

(All my posts seem to have lots of............ dots. I think I'm turning into you JB :D)
