Fuel gauge fiasco, -Dealer comments - your comments welcome

I believe so, but check first. I'm sure it changed too float with the 2010 MU.

Ok, thanks for your Input.
It's the 2008 GSA MU that I'm looking at so it'll probably fall into the "Problem Years"!!
I guess they finally decided, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and reverted to 1150 Technology eh?!

Me ? I bought a 90th anniversary GSA one of the last ever made so all the previous problems (well most of em ) had been sorted out by the time this model came out.

The one I'm considering is with a Harley Dealer and I'm looking at doing a Backwards Deal on my Road King for it.
I'm over the HD thing now and want to upgrade my 1150GS and this seemed an ideal Solution.
Problem is, the more I read, the less inclined I am to take the plunge.

Depending on your financial position I would be looking to buy the very last of the TC Model, they are pretty well sorted, but like all machines some will break down occasionally. Good luck.

Mine is a 2009 model (single cam) and it has the later fuel float version..
Have to say its consistent and seems accurate enough for me.

Mine is a 2009 single-cam, & it definitely has the fuel-strip, as I've had it changed under warranty, at about 15K miles.

I have a 2008 Adventure. In most respects a very good bike but there are some annoying features where BMW should have known better.

Most detail issues were pretty much sorted with the twin cam model.

Broke last Thursday eve.
In to Wollastons last night. All fixed today and ready for my European jaunt from Friday. Good service as always.
I wonder how long this one will last. Lol

One month on and my fuel strip has failed again.
This is getting stupid now.
When I get it back from mikeyboy after he's sorted out the gearbox output shaft seal I shall get it done again.

Is this a problem on the t/c models as well

It's worse than that. The fuel strip governs how hard the fuel pump runs. At indicated low fuel, the pump runs harder to drive the jet pump that empties the tank RHS. When the strip fails the pumps runs hard all the time and wears out faster.

My 2010 TC started playing up. Id fill up and get a range to empty of around 170 miles. All good but then I'd ride 50 odd miles and it would show 200 miles to empty. This would continue over the course of the day and multiple restarts and then it would jump right down to 80 miles to empty. Took it to the dealer under ext warranty and they could find no fault or not replicate it so told me to pus off. Next time it happened I took photos and returned to the dealer with the photos. They have now agreed to replace the fuel sender strip. I think it may be solved but have yet to get he bike back...Cant argue with the photos...dont care what their 911 says

Gazza, I assume when you get your fuel strip replaced within it's 2 year warranty, it doesn't cost you anything?.....
I am considering paying the 200 quid to have mine replaced.
Cheers
Flo.

Yes the replacement was free, the only problem is that they don't give a new 2 year warranty on the replaced strip, once the 2 years from the first one is up you will then have to pay again, this means that I could end up paying £105.00 every year to keep a working fuel gauge ,
Though if I have one pack up a couple of months before the 2 year warranty expires and its not been fitted for long I would argue that it should be replaced foc still,

I'm not sure if that is legal. It may be worth looking at the sale of goods act or other relevant law. You'd have the right to reject the item for a continuous failure if it was a white good, for example for not fit for purpose. And maybe be fully re-inbursed.
