Hi folks, My fuel gauge is getting mad. Any one else with this? I refuelled in Morocco last weeak and took 10 miles to switch off the light and get the gauge to top. Then, once I stopped, gauge was back on warning for low level... but only done 100 kms.

Does that need gauge replacement?

Mine has also developed a slow trip reading so it takes 3-4 miles to register a mile , not sure how that happens , but it sounds like there is no fix at present:nenau

Thanks Claw.

I did it, but no chance, but your link is what I was looking for.

Warrenty is not a solution anymore in my case. Mine is a 2004 model with 95.000 kms on the clock.

I will check with dealer the cost of changing "the sender" or what ever it may be called nowadays... I keep stuck on the Series 3 Land Rvoer technology :)

I had mine go earlier this year out of warranty. £160 to supply, fit and calibrate.

Was not a happy bunny.

People keep going on about 'just use the trip'. I do reset the trip when I re-fuel but I had to get the fuel guage fixed as the yellow triangle and flashing 'FUEL' got on my wick

+1 to the above sender unit alone is £95.

Not chuffin happy

Not sure if i mentioned that my guage has gone the same way as many others with the same symptoms, It happened a couple of months ago but have been relying on the trip guage and looking in the tank and giving it a slosh about, but i've had enough now and decided to call BuMW customer services to have a moan about it, unsurprisingly the agent on the other end of the phone had not had any calls before saying there were any high failure rates of the sensor type fitted to a 57 plate GS, She aked if i had taken it to a dealer to be inspected to se if that was the fault and was i just guessing that was the issue so i told her the amount of reports of this part failing in a quite spectacular fasion were outstanding, so i asked if i take it to a dealer and have them instact it would they contribute to the replacement of the fault ridden badly designed usless bit of bent metal and all she could say was they can concider helping with either all or some of the cost ! that was a bit of a quick back down for some one who has never heard of this issue before so i decided to call Bahnstormer in Bracknell as this is the closest dealer to me and speaking to the guy in the service dept he ( although i will not hold him to this ) did agree that this part does seem to fail on a regular basis and they could approach BuMW for a contibution to cover the costs but alas the GS is tainted for me even if they do fix there not a chance in hell I will buy another Bavarian Motor Works product.

Replacment

Good news, BuMW are going to supply the part for free and i have to cover the labor @ £105 but i do get 2 years parts and labor warranty so if it goes again I'm covered, Not that it's costing them much to supply but in two years I might have traded it in anyway.

YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT: it got fixed, on his own.. without doing anything except refuelling from empty tank to full 3, 4 times.

When back form Tangier, I filled up the tank, but at the moment it was more than half full. since then problems occurred. Light (triangle) kept on. After first refuelling, gauge was not marking full, but triangle switched off, and went back on when almost 220 km were done. But gauge still marking half when full and empty when half.

After 1 month of gentle refuelling at my usual petrol station, gauge started to mark higher, and suddenly, yesterday, I filled up and gauge was at full!!! I couldn't believe my eyes.

I had a chat with the BMW dealer in Malaga (actually with the guy at the workshop) and he says "if triangle light works, leave it. Change the stuff cost a lot of money and probably will get mad again...). I did it and now...:bounce1...
