Fuel Gauge only showing half full

Hi Can any one shed some light as to why my fuel gauge only shows half full when the tank is definitely full
the bottom half of the digital gauge fills up with the black markers but the top half stays blank. and no i dont have the yellow
warning triangle on. its a 2006 R1200gs. all input welcome.

Are you sure it's half full? Are you sure it's not half empty?

Depends how you look at it my friend, either way it`s pissing me off

Could it be that it's only the top half of the tank that's holding fuel and that's what you are seeming at the filler neck?

Well i suppose i`ll just need to use the trip switch, like every one else.

I am afraid that sounds like the beginning of the well documented failure of the fuel strip.

don't know if the 1200 has a fuel float if the bike was a bit smaller I would suggest banging it up am down

It's probably just a Scottish thing.....

Failed Fuel strip. Bikes from 2010 on had floats instead of strips. Up to then strips................simples

My 08 adv. did the same thing it was the fuel strip. Think it was £110.00 at the time before time and labour.
