Recently I loosened the fuel tank on my 1150GSA to get at the battery. Since then when I refuel the gauge doesnt show full and goes down a lot quicker than it used to.
No fuel leak and i am still getting the same amount of mileage to the tank full.
have I disturbred something by moving the tank, even though it was only slightly to access the battery terminals:confused:
(No I didnt remove the tank or disconnect anything)
I dont want to go to BMW dealer if I can get round it, spent enough there recently!

I think it's some electrical dodgyness within the tank itself or at the connector on the right hand side under the plastic cover. It happened on both my GS's and after a while I gave up trying to sort it and just got used to it. I think it's a common problem.

Me too

Exactly the same problem on mine after fitting a few bits and lights - completely removed and stipped down tank and sender but still no good - any other advice gratefully received on this.

Try the Connection Plug??

I've had this problem after changing the fuel filter and thought I'd moved or twisted something on the sender? - but traced to a poor connection in the multi-pin electrics connector mounted next to the fuel tank securing bolt?.
I know you didn't have this dis-connected but it seems to get a bit corroded on the pins and just moving it sometimes disturbs the previously good connection:confused:
I sprayed it with WD40 I plugged/unplugged it several times and eventually ok - worth a look:nenau

Clean the 4 pin connector block under the plastic cover on the righthand side!

Common problem...easily fixed.

Thanks Grizzly and RJW, done this and it has settled down, and looks about the right reading for the mileage on the current tank full.
At least I know what to look for if it does it again.:thumb

Hello!!

Thanks for the advice about the 4-pin connector, I tried it yesterday, but encountered a silly problem.... I don´t know how to remove the right plastic cover :hide

¿How is it removed? ¿Simply pull away or there is some screw action involved?

I have looked at the part index but it haven´t helped much -to me and my poor mechanic knowledge-

Sorry for my awful english but I am from Spain...

Thanks in advance, .....Edupi

cover

yes simply pull the cover away, well pull gently and firmly to avoid breaking plastic lugs, bit of grease on lugs when you put it back helps get it off next time,if a lug does break dont panic new panels are really cheap from bmw.

If you can,try spraying something like WD40 onto the rubber mounting points.Comes off easier then.:thumb

Hello!!!

All that you said worked as expected.

The plastic cover was taked out, and the connector cleaned with wd40.

Now the fuel gauge works perfectly.

Thanks very much!!!!!!!! :):):):):):):):):):)
