my fuel gauge on my 1150 gs reads one bar when it's full to the top, and only begins to register properly when it's half full or less, what do think could be the problem! sender unit, float in the tank or some other problem.

muppet man!!!!

Dunno, but mine did a similar thing after having the tank off recently. Wouldn't show full even when it was and behaved very erratically. After a couple of tanks of fuel it seemed to all sort itself out and is now back to normal. Have you tried cleaning the contacts? There are various threads on here on how to do it and it's so simple even I managed it. Didn't make any difference though!

Mine behaves erratically too - always has done despite trying all the known cures. Take your pick from: contact block at rhs of tank, contact block under tank, sliding contact thingy on sender unit. Only consolation is that the light still works properly, so I ignore the gauge now!

fuel gauge

thanks for the advice,i'll try those things.

cheers muppet man. :thumb

A mates Adv had a similar symptom, it turned out to be droplets of rain water entering the fuel tank from the filler neck due to the tiny drain line hole and drainage tube from the fuel filler cap area being blocked with dirt. We cleared it with a few shots of compressed air, put Redex in the tank to disperse the water, and the fault cleared at the next refuelling and has been spot on ever since.

Well I now have the same problem. I did a search before putting my post up and did not see this one.

It started two fill ups ago.... full tank but showing one bar and temp flickering. Seems to work again once the tank is about two thirds full. The light still comes on but it is a pain none the less.

Fuel Tank permanently full

It may seem great with the price of petrol these days, but in fact I have an issue where my fuel gauge always registers full, but the low level light still works when the I'm running out. I've checked all of the contacts leading to the gauge and they seem fine. I haven't had the sender out to check. Anyone got any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks
