Ignore the Fire Starter's above...
Simply use some Rubber Grease, or Vaseline, over the O-Rings to ease your insertion. Don't push too hard until you have overcome the initial restistance. When you have done that, and can feel sufficient penitration, push hard and start the bike. Check for leakage straight away!

Worth the invstment
Having snapped one of these last summer and making up a temporary connection with the vent pipe connectors I invested in a set from Beamer Boneyeard - really good quality and no more worries. The single bit you are looking for is here but I would invest in all 3 - the did me a cracking deal on postage to the UK.

I always use vaseline on the fitting as per Ditchwater's advice, if you have been struggling for a while you need to check that you have not damaged the O ring, the slightest nick can cause a drip that will at least stain the gearbox or you can imagine the worst consequence.

Thanks everyone for the input here - tried it with Tim's grips but couldn't get a proper purchase on the bit to be honest. Went in the wife's secret drawer and found something called 'KY' jell (think is her face wash???) smeared it on and straight in the hole it went!!! (must try some of that elsewhere when she's not looking). Gary - thanks for the link - better order now before the £ gets consumed by the dollar!

My plastic oem ones have been fine 'so far' but I'm not going to tempt fate further so I plan on ordering a set of the CPC plus an extra 90 for the left side crossover. These SS QDC's are a tad bigger than the oem and as such a bit more tricky to fish the crossover out when removing the tank......so I'll just disconnect the left and right fitting and leave the crossover length in situ while the tank is off.
