Hello All,
Planning a trip for next year from Greece to Turkey - Syria - Jordan, I am wondering after having read about the low fuel quality in Syria if I would be experiencing any kind of problems with my bike (2002 BMW R 1150GS)? I know there are a few people here who have travelled over there, according to some friends who did the trip back in spring the fuel in Syria was low in quality but they didn't experience problems with their bikes (R 1200GS).

Not travelled in Syria but have been many places with my 1150 where very poor quality fuel was normal.
We experienced no problems except a bit of knocking under load, especially with a hot engine.

I carried some octane booster but didn't use it:)

Thanks for the advice mate, ah just forgot about the octane booster, never to bad to have one handy on such a place :)

Did it a few years ago on an 1150. Replaced the cat converter. No problems at all. Good luck. Great country, great people. Hope to get there again October.

Thanks mate! I know its a great place and great people! Hope all goes well and I get to do that journey! :)
Any additional hints? :)

Patience at the border. Northern Syria Med coast. Palmyra, Damascus (tho I usually hate cities) and castles until they come out of your ears. Watch for the drivers tho not as bad as some I've come across.

If you have any specific questions pm me.
