Fuel level float?

Changing the fuel filter on my 2004 Rockster, hasn’t been done for a while date stamp on fuel filter is 2003. Have the tills aluminium UBend and suitable hoses.
Fuel pump assembly doesn’t appear to have a level arm and float, is the round plastic thingy a fuel level sensor? And best method for removing the ridulous BMW clips. ( mind you the whole setup is pretty ridiculous but you knew that didn’t you

Yes, the round plastic thingy is the level sensor. It can be adjusted at different heights and might have moved during the operation. Default position is about centered on its support. As for the clips, end-cutting nippers will do the job.
 
You can usually prise the clips loose with a small screwdriver or similar and re use...
