Hi after loads of faffing about ive renewed the fuel pump and filter but after refitting the tank (and now filling it up:blast
the fuel gauge is not working ? any ideas

You've either knocked the float off or have it jammed somehow.... either way the fuel has to be drained and cover off again :D

What he said :)

Most likely is you've re-positioned the cap/pump assembly one bolt alignment (or more) the wrong way around its axis, so the float arm is caught on the side of the tank lobe or centre bridging part

if the float was stuck would it not show some fuel or the empty light would be on ? i have no bars on the fuel gauge and no empty light?
99% sure the cover plate went back in the same position it came off

Dont know why but no, it doesnt work that way, mine had no guage but empty light functioned? you have earthed the "potentiometer" / gauge strip, so it always reads "0" or did mine always read full, anyway it is wiring to the strip I think, mine had the same issue, but I struggle to remember if it stayed full or empty?

That's what's strange no empty light

2 options, both guesses (durr, obviously)

1) The float arm is bent a tad, so the little arm that slides up and down the potentiometer srtrip isn't even in contact with it....therefore no guage reading at all, and as the same strip triggers the low fuel light as well, that's not on.

2) Although it's impossible to reconnect the 4 way plug betwixt tank and main loom the wrong way around, it IS possible to connect it a little skewiff (it's 4 wires wide 1 wire deep if you see what I mean, rather than 2x2) which can push out one or more pin connections for it....so in theory you could still have the pump running but no signal for the RID.

My money's on the continuity strip though.

Thanks have given the plug a good squeeze so I'm sure its not that looks like another tank strip is in order anoyingly I did look at that and think it looked a bit delicate and maybe I struggled a bit to get the breather hoses back on and knocked it
