Hi All,

I have a r1100gs and I have found that fuel sender unit is faulty. Now the first I did was go down to the local BMW to get a price and availability. They came back with a wopping $687! Now that seems a bit extreme, they give you the complete housing with all the pipes when all that is needed is the VDO sender unit.

My question is has anyone had any luck at purchasing the VDO sender unit on it's own? It has a number on it VDO 301, but searching does not come up with anything.

Try a Wreckers - Discount Motorcycle Wreckers in Coburg - 03 9350 4417

you might be able to get the whole unit and fit that or canabilise it jsut for the bit you want...

It`s not unknown for the float arm to become stuck....or even detached.
If you`ve not had a look at it,it could be worth doing so...and saving a lot of dosh and hassle. :thumb

I said this to someone else on the board, recently, but it could just be the connector block on the right hand side of the tank (as you're sat on the bike). Try pulling it apart & cleaning the contacts before starting to dismantle everything....

Thanks for your advice, I did see your post. Unfortunately it's the sender unit, with the unit out of the tank if I apply pressure to the float arm it goes to full. I might see if I can play with the contacts to see if I can get them to contact better. Even a second hand unit is $330.
