Looks like the fuel strip gremlins have struck but I thought I would ask on here before taking it to bits....

'05 RT with nearly full tank (45 miles since filling it), set off today and the 'range to empty' was showing 280 miles but the yellow triangle is on and the fuel symbol is flashing with nothing showing on the fuel gauge. The 'range to empty' went down to zero after 20 miles or so.

No fuel leaks apparent, done about 120 miles today and not run out anyway.

A quick search on here seems to confirm my suspicions but any additional info appreciated.
Thanks.

BMW have given up on the fuel strip, new one and fitted best part of £200 with 2 year warranty, if it then stops working with in one year, eleven months, three weeks, and six days you get a new one, but with only with the remaining warranty ie if it goes on the last day you will have to buy a new one

Yeah, the dealer quoted me £200+.
They weren't aware of the BMW USA 12 year warranty, didn't sound impressed that it had been flagged up on a forum ...he even suggested taking it back to the USA- not very helpful to say the least and suggested ringing back in a week or two in case the warranty had spread to BMW UK. Yeah right.
Not impressed with the corporate stance, or the dealer attitude for that matter.
I would happily fit the strip myself and take it to the dealer to calibrate it, but the computer set up that's required makes that impractical seeing as it needs calibrating whilst out of the tank..

I've done a bit of searching and found that a member of another forum fitted a new strip himself and apparently, within a two or three fills, the bike's computer had 'adjusted' itself around the new strip and was accurate. Not sure if that is feasible?
Any technical bods out there that can shed light on this idea?

Hi Steve,
I may be wrong and talking bollox, but i am sure i have read somewhere quite recently that BMW have extended the warranty on the fuel strips!
I cant recall where i read it sorry.
It may be worth a call to customer services.

Probably read it on here. 1200GS Hexhead section has a thread on it with the 'Part No' for the warranty extension. Cheers
