Fuel strip to float conversion complete guide.

In the final stage of strip to float conversion. 2008 R1200gs ESA with the "high" ecm. Float is installed, pins are swapped, I'm at the motoscan programming phase. Under fuel system there are two "arm" vs "foil" parameters XX and YY. Do i change both of these? Below these, on the thermocouple setting, there's an option "2" that is check marked. Uncheck this? thanks in advance.

sounds like he's tweaked the display in motoscan

foil = heated strip
arm = float (I presume, as in float on an arm, aka lever type)

can you look at post 1 and see if you can make sense of the interface as it looks now

it looks like the OP is only changing two parameters, my options appear to include three. I would post screenshots, but can't figure out how. Yeah, definitely some changes have ocvured on the new motoscan app. It's actually in german, even though I've switched the preference to english.

side stand switch is there on the GSA models - it stops the reading when its leant over ?

float mounted on the pump on large tank bikes needs the freeze on side stand bit - as it needs the space due to fuel load - where the float movement is significant
small tank bikes it doesn't mount on the pump - they get another bracket to hang it off the filler cap - to try and get a more linear fall

the freeze stops the weird readings of a float bent too far up due to loading when using the side stand on a full tank

I'm having another problem. I purchased OBD link LX but I cannot get it to connect to my Android's bluetooth. It connects immediately when plugged into my truck, but connected to the bike, nada. When I plug in my cheapo, "PEAK" BT adapter to the bike, I can connect.

try and connect to a laptop and flash latest firmware - its an old device now, last update was 2021 - r u sure they work OK on BMWs ?

this is the recco one

figured it out. In the motoscan settings, i had to change the bluetooth to only recognize the obd link lx. crazy huh? Anyway. I decided to visit my buddy next town over, so great opportunity to fill up and test the new sender and settings. Filled up with NON-Ethanol fuel at Sheets. Good news: tank read full. Bad news: Bike immediately started running rough, backfiring, and popping through the intakes. Would barely run below 4k rpm. Rode it back home and hopped in the car. Bad fuel, water in fuel, or misfill of the in-grounds. This station also carries E85. Receipt confirms ethanol free. Will investigate tomorrow.

OK, so heres what the motoscan format looks like on my phone. When I chose the first option, "XX
Values 9, k25_20L_hebel" , and hit recode, it automatically changed the values for the "YY" parameter directly below, to lever. After that, I couldn't engage the, "Thermocouples
TCPL_ K_TEMP
Available options
Value 02", field below that. It all seems to work though.
On a second note, when I arrived home last night, I started the bike and it runs perfect 🫥 Now to address the newly emerged flashing "ESA" warning message.

he really modified that lot

I guess

Values 9, k25_20L_hebel = Set point 9, K25 Bike with 20 Litre tank with a Float sensor

Hebel = Lever - AKA float sensor
Folienge = Foil - AKA Heated Strip sensor

this is crazy. All I did was recode the fuel level sensor from strip to float. Now:
*my brake light is stuck on
*heated grips no longer work
*esa is non-functional
in the moto-scan app it says all ESA options are "deactivated"
Heated grips are "deactivated"

I attempted to recode the fuel sender to strip. Coding process seemed normal but read "lebel" again after reboot. Attempted several times with same result. Also attempted to activate heated grips, same result.

are you 100% sure the device you are connecting with is approved for the motoscan app

there lots of adapters that part fake BMW official comms protocols - but leave elements of the data-stream of the cutting room floor
as all the elements you are having issues with are all controlled by the same module, throwing a partial curve ball in the mix would likely make it have a hernia

if you read this forum - many people are starting to find issues all pointing towards their ZFE packing up

Yes, it's a genuine, brand new, OBD link LX. Honestly, this bike is turning out to be a real bummer. Previously owned an r1150gs, and it was very trouble free.

odd found a page saying it should work - mate had an early green one from these guys and it wouldn't communicate at all

you never confirmed if you updated its firmware - aside from some big bugs lots of the updates were all about Bluetooth connection updates

holy smokes! OK, was able to restore the lost functions by accidentally discovering the "restore from backup" option. It's revealed when clicking on the three dots in the top right corner. Fuel gauge is back to a non-functional state, but at least I have grip heat, working brake light, and sport suspension again. Now I'm totally gun shy from attempting the fuel float coding. I'll contact motoscan for some pointers before wading back in.

nice, never knew he had added that feature....

I have played with settings and never had anything untoward occur using motoscan

It's most likely something screwy I did. Anyway, stoked that it has this ability and it worked.

Seems to be working now. Cleared my head, and repeated the process... cleanly
Performed three coding changes.
"inductive fuel sensor" was already deactivated. Did not get a gauge reading until I changed the "thermocouples FLS 08" to "potentiometer". Not sure why the fuel capacity field listed my tank at 19l but I changed to 20l, as that's what I understand as correct. Anyway, after the change, everything is operating normally, as equipped.

is there a learning phase for this mod? after less than 20 miles, on a slightly less than full tank, my low fuel light was back on. I removed the float and confirmed smooth operation with ohm meter. 4.7 full to 90ish empty. I hooked everything back up, sans tank, and with float just about 1/4 down from full, the warning light comes on. Just seems there should be some hidden calibration procedure or coding, in the ZFE or cluster module, that would set this straight. Can anyone provide screenshots of their 2010-2012 hex ZFE/Cluster coding?
Will refill to the top on today's ride and calculate exactly how much fuel used before light pops up again.
