went for a ride on my 09 gsa yesterday, when i got home the fuel range said 100 miles(ish) and just under 1/2 tank on the gauge. just been out to the bike and the range now says 230 miles but the gauge says empty, the orange triangle is lit and fuel is flashing in the display. anything simple, do i just need to reset or is it a trip to the dealers ?

It's a mystery

To me, too.

must be an 09 model feature. BumW fixed the EWS and FPC so now let's have some fun with fuel gauges :augie

As said, full is full and empty is sort of empty, 45 -50 mpg, trip meter and you're sorted :thumb2. GSA should be good for 330 miles give or take a bit

Bikes after 06 are fitted with a conductive strip instead of a float guage, the dealer can recalibrate the strip under warranty but this will require an overnight stay, they have to drian the tank and allow the strip to dry fully, then fill to the top and set the upper threshold, giage will be pretty accurate after that.

I took a GSA for a test ride and was watching the fuel guage and 'distance to go. The fuel guage was showing plenty and the distance to go said 43 miles. Then I ran out of fuel. Garage had to come to the rescue.

Dealer said it was a software fault which should be getting fixed. That was Sept so I hope it is soprted for April when I take delivery.

I don't know if the method of recording fuel tank contentys is the same for GS/GSA but on my GS this is how it works. When I fill up, the range reads 190 miles. When I get to 40 miles left the range comes on automatically and counts down to zero. If I fill up at the point I can put 17 litres in. The tank has 21 litres capacity.
The other week, I ran the bike past the zero on the range. The range display showed ----- but I was able to do another 30 miles. I filled up and got 20 litres in the tank.

I'm told that this is the correct way for it to work. A colleague who also has a GS says work on 200 miles to a tank full and I'll be fine.

This is an annoying undocumented feature on my 2008 GSA - the guage can display 1 segment remaining, but then I'll get only 20 litres of fuel in the tank, or it can show half a tank remaining and I'll get 29 litres of fuel in the tank.

This behaviour persisted despite the dealer saying I had the then most up to date software update which should correct it (circa November 2008)!!

Therefore, as said in previous posts, it ends up being somewhat of a guesstimate based on a combination of resetting the mileometer when you fill up and knowing what type of riding you've been doing...

What's the point in having a fuel gauge which is not actually gauging even slightly accurately?? Is it therefore fit for purpose.... :blast
