I seem to remember a couple of years back someone on the site obtaining old R1150 gs tanks to attempt to modify to increase the fuel capacity (by removing the side wings and welding in extra sections).

I cann't seem to be able to find the thread and was wondering if the culprit was succesfull , was it a disaster or did it never happen ?

I've an inkling to try something similar if I can find a couple of old tanks as my mate is currently employing a Czech bodywork mechanic who appears to be able to weld thin air !

Anyone admitting to this ?

Why mess about like that?, get an adventure tank these hold almost 40 litres and you'll never run out of petrol (famous last words!). Also they fit and tank covers etc are available if required. Also work out WILL probably work out cheaper. Put an ad in the wanted section.

The last couple of adventure tanks that I've seen have been on e bay ( damaged and needing resprays) at £450 plus. The last one was for sale a couple of weeks ago by motorworks on their E bay auction site.
Thats the reason I was wondering if this has been done.
